i wouldn't invest in the motor, unless you plan on swapping or turbo charging.
but the best thing you can start on if you are really dedicated on building a car is the suspension and brakes, then work your way up from there.

and if you want quality parts that are going to perform, they will not be cheap.
though with right timing, patients, and bargaining you can get good deals on them.

springs/coilovers:

sway bars/support brace:
suspension technique

asr(jdm sway bar)

these are just a few, i would spend some time in the search and susension forums.

I think you should get a new fender and bumper myself.

However, it's a sedan, so with suspension, I'd suggest a moderately low setup, that sacrifices a little performance for a good, clean ride. IMO, why have a four door if your ride sucks for anyone you drive around, including yourself?

Anywho, off topic for a sec. What you may want to do mostly with that sedan is make it into a nice, slick, dependable DD. ie: some visual spice in good moderation (and in your own taste), and a well-maintained interior. I wouldn't suggest too much in terms of the motor, unless you want a better one, but that's not a cheap "mod."

I plan of geetting my fender and my bumper pretty soon; both from Certifit in st. paul; great low prices! But yesss back onto the subject.. i kinda want it to be all show no go.. haha sounds gay i know but speed im not as much worried about with my first car.. Anyone from MN know any good paintjob/body work places?

My '97 LX passenger headlight is fogged up. I am thinking about the bake it and paint it process while having it off to reseal it. That looks cool and cheap.

How much money you got to spend on the car? Because a fairly nice paint job would set you back pretty far....what's the condition of the paint in? Also, how many miles does it have on it, becasue even though you'd like "all show", the car you probably still be a daily driver, so how it rides is important. I agree whoever said about suspension, get a lip, drop it, and invest some money in "going faster".

I'd suggest you read up... a lot. Don't rush into anything, especially big and expensive things. Read up and figure out what you like and what direction you'd like to bring your car.
