Default My Path to All Motor Nirvana.......

I drive a black 07 si coupe. I briefly considered turbo,sc, and especially nitrous since i have a kit chillin in the closet, but this car is destined to be N/A!....and nasty. I plan on making the engine breath as freely as possible, and some other minor tweaks, but thats about it. I think the key to this build will be dropping as much weight as humanly possible without driving around a shell, i mean this is a brand new SI. Whats made me instantly become fascinated with this plan is the other day i was thinking about how much slower my car is with 500lbs in it or say 3 friends. So dropping 500lbs should be great. This is of course the oldest trick in the book but i think if u look at it that way it helps.I know 500lbs is a little ambitious, but whatever.

The question is, what are peoples opinions on the most effective ways to cut weight besides gutting the interior.

Seats, rims and exhaust are the 3 easiest, most practical things to do when cutting weight. Where you go from there is up to you, but anything from pulling backseats when racing, to gutting the entire interior and power options.

Remove AC, Power Steering, All airbags and a million other things

OR just go buy an eg shell for 400-500 bux and drop a k series in it
rather than ghetto your brand new car.

Try Nutrisystems. The more weight you lose the less weight in your car.

CF HOOD, CF TRunk lid ( I would repaint them stock color) Light wheels, take out the spare(make sure you get a can of fix a flat) anymore than that and you kill the luxury of a DD.

My friend had a DC2 gutted the inside and took so much out of it that it way annoying driving down the street.

I guess what I'm trying to say is determine how far you are willing to go.

The car isnt even that bad 2945lbs 14.95lbs per hp you cut even 250lbs you will be sitting good 13.7lbs per hp on the stock hp ratings at crank. all motor you can get that up in the 250 crank hp zone

not that bad? it's damn near 700lbs more than it's older brothers. let's say he does shave down the weight by 250....it'll still be heavier than the old civics.

if i was a BALLER there's no question....i'd strip it to the frame.

The civics are disappointingly huge.. I remember when I was bummed to see the MS3 tipping the scales at a bit over 3k, and then I found out the SI was right behind it.

2301lbs is what the DelSol weighed according to this. Hell if you took the top off and pulled the spare and jack out it would weight 2200lbs.. it's not that much of a stretch, no "gutting" needed

Thats not very accurate considering it lumps all delsols into one category.

He has listed a 1995 delsol Si Which would be the SOHC Vtec model which in 1995 weighed 2414lbs. So What I was saying is unless he gutted it out taking out 214lbs off of it would be pretty difficult.

Also you say pull the top off and it weighs that much....Ive never heard of someone go and claim a weight on their car after they pulled the targa top off.

sorry I wasn't accurate enought for you... these are better, but still not verified.
and I can't believe you haven't heard of people removing unneccesary items (*cough* targa top *cough*) from their car to save weight for drag racing.. isn't that what this thread is about?
