I wouldnt waste anymore money on the motor unless it was a turbo, just my opinion.

Your best off swaping the motor for a b18, it will be cheap and more reliable than a turbo d16y8. Yeah it will not have as much power as the turboed d16 but you can always build the b18. Keep it all motor, I have had an bad experience with a turbo.

what's best bet is what his wallet can spit out. why does he have to have a B18. there's nothing wrong with building a turbo d-series motor, especially if you are on a really tight budget.

and then there is the B16, cheaper than the B18, but more potential than the D16.

sorry if you had bad experiences with turbo's, but they can be quite reliable.
any motor put together poorly can give someone a bad experience, whether it's N/A or F/I.

I think he may have been talking about the B18b1

But seriously... just turbo the D16y8, there is no point in spending extra money if you dont have to. If you do want to spend the extra money and do a swap, then a B18b1 would be a nice choice.

Boost is the best you will get out of your SOHC.
If your looking for more, look into a DOHC motor swap, most common being a B-series.

For more info, check out the FAQ section on the top 4 threads of this list under 92-00 civic/del sol.

from my past experience the money i spent to do the complete change over to a stock b series was enough to build my d for boost and buy a complete turbo set up thats just as reliable and much much faster...i went back to the d and happier then ever....

If you don't want to expend money in swaps or turbo....try to buy some high performance pistons, camshafts and modified the transmission ....and lowered couple of mm to the engine block .....

How much money are you looking to spend, and by spend I mean how much do you have right now or in the near future (year or less). And what kind of WHP goals are you looking for?

Just save it then and wait until that 500-800 turns into a few thousand.

Till you save more money for a swap or turbo... you are going to need a little more research and a little more than 800 to boost it properly even on a junkyard turbo.

You could find a used kit here on HT-marketplace for ~1500 or so (+/- few hundred). Someone i know used to come to meets with a boosted y7 EK hatch, and they paid around that much for a used Greddy kit.
