Default What engine's in the Euro CTR?

What K motor is that? It's not the Z3 is it? Different intake manifold. Is it a K20A?

http://www.autoblog.com/2006/0...rope/

"While the Euro-spec Civic Type R employs basically the same DOHC 2.0-liter inline-4 as the 197-hp power plant of the U.S.-spec Civic Si, this Japan-spec engine is different. It starts as the 2.0-liter four-cylinder of the Accord Euro R that's sold in the Japanese market. With a larger throttle body, an intake manifold that features 5mm larger ports that have been polished just like an NSX manifold, and a taller compression ratio of 11.7:1, the K20A spins out 222 hp at 8,000 rpm, some 111 hp per liter." From Edmunds.com

looks like everybody is claiming that it is a k20z3.. I don't know if that's actually the motor code (you know how honda changes things up b19c3,b18c5,b18c6 are all pretty much the same) but it's even rated the same HP as the US spec Si's

That sounds like a Z3 needed part list for a Type-R conversion heh

from the pics in the links I posted.. the IM cover looks a little different, but still silver... on the Euro Civic Type R.. must be talking about the JDM CTR now

I don't know that the CTR IM will even fit.. is it the same head? the Si uses the TSX head that has an extra water passage though the IM that the other K-series motors don't have... I know the RSX guys swap the other way (tsx/si manifold on k20a's and k20a2's), but it's no big deal since there isn't a water passage in the head, the IM passage doesn't get used.

but thinking about it, if the RSX guys are swapping to our manifold then why the hell would you wanna switch to theirs?

I saw a pic somewhere with a euro hatch that had a black IM cover, may not have been the R though now that i think of it. I guess I will just have to get mine painted or something... though id rather have honda factory.

You do realize that even though that's the euro civic type r, it's the australian Official Honda website?

just wanted to make sure.. I'd hate for you to order from europe and end up with silver or something... also, did I see a white valve cover in that pic? I'd like to see some guys here with TW put that on without an intake cover

Yeah I noticed it was aussie, I also noticed a while back when some of the earlier Civic 2.0 models were posted up a model from Malaysia had the black IM cover.... Is black covers something you only get if youre on the southern hemisphere?

That makes me sick... Looks like the robots you would see in movies from the early 90s.

I think I'm going to e-mail Honda about the manifold covers.

Good to know, do you have any info as to what parts are different from the Z3?

I don't have anything solid on it, but i seem to remember reading somewhere a long time ago that both intake and exhaust are different, and the inlet cam lobes are of a larger profile as you would probably expect. Other than that i really don't know any more and there doesn't seem to be much out there explaining the differences.

the output/hp rating is exactly the same... I figured it was just another one of honda's re-stampings for a different market.. think the old b-series type r motors

The old B series type R motors usually had more hp... b16 si (2000) = ~160hp b16 type-r = ~180. At least from what I have seen.

I was referring to the b18c, b18c3,b18c5, and b18c7... they were all the integra type r motor, just different codes for different markets... c7 for australia, c for japan, c5 for the us and c3 for europe..
