What are the signs of bad valve seals?
Ive been noticing some oil loss after 1200 miles, every time I change my oil. I Dont think its my rings, my compression tests are well over 300 psi (it justs bounces of the 300 psi limit on the tester) in every cylinder (CTR pistons in a b18c1 block with b16 head). Leakdown tests were done and the mechanic told me that there were no leaks anywhere in the head or block or head gasket. He was amazed at the compression test. My spark plugs do not look like any oil is being combusted. Is there a possibilty that due to the compression (12:1) that the crank temperatures are high and causing oil to burn prematurely? I have noticed that as the weather gets hotter the faster the oil burns (alot of VTEC). When the weather was cooler it was burning but not fast.
Bad valve seals typically exhibit their failure through a blue cloud of smoke(burnt oil) upon the startup of your engine. The reason is that the oil "sitting" in your head while the motor is not running, will get through the valve stem seals and into your combustion chambers. It will then burn upon startup and that is what you see.
valve seals will cause smoke at idle and other high vacuum situations.
but wil not smoke at full throttle. FYI your rings could be the cause of the
oil consumption and still produce a good compression #
