Default d16 intake manifold on d17! read if you want power!

this was a hard one but it made some power.. it was kinda tricky and was an all day project but it worked! since they dont make intake manifolds for d17 to replace the stock plastic d17 manifold i had to take a d16 manifold and have it installed on my car. i used an after market d16 intake manifold and an b series throttle body with a after market fuel rail and to my suprise i made a decent amount of power off it. my car started with 155 crank hp and now we ran it on the dyno at 178! damn good out of an all motor d17 with NO internal work done all bolt on with stock ecu!

way too go!

So now is the part where I ask What brand manifold, manifold, and throttle body did you go with, and what mods did you have to do to each part to get it to work

umm blox intake manifold b series throttle body and a golden eagle fule rail. and i dont have the dyno charts on hand but i can get them. and i also have a cat eliminating down pipe, custom header full exhaust injen cold air intake and aem true power pully's. and i have had the stock ecu tuned using a honda true tuner which allows you to tune stock ecu's without having any type of piggyback system

so you had the motor out of the car to do this project?

It sounds awsome, and if it is true that is even better. This would def open new doors and create new opportunities for the d17.

if possible, could you do a step by step write up and include pics? I am def interested to know more about this. to you

also i noticed you said you had an Injen intake, that would have to be for a d16 motor, correct? did you have to do any sort of custom fabrication to get everything to line up, or was it pretty simple to bolt everything together?

yeah i am doin the whole write up on it and will be posted soon. and i have pics. as with the intake we took the injen intake that i had for the stock intake manifold which goes in throught the top and cut it and smoothed the edges to make it work because once you cut it the pipe works pefect no need for new intake piping. but i will have to write up with pics to show soon

once you get started and you start putting a decent amount of money into this motor its not bad.. the funny thing is i still get like 40mpg lol!!! take that with your shitzubishi! but i have done a lot to my car to manage the power that ive gotten and its been a long road.. i mean im 2yrs and about $2000 in the whole not counting rims tires and other accesories that ive trown in there lol

What all have you done to get the extra 60 crank hp? Because I'm fairly positive that the intake manifold wouldn't do it.

according to consumer reports a stock 05 ex comes with 127hp from the factory. 28hp is quite a lot of gain from just basic bolt ons. has anyone else seen this kind of gain from bolt ons?

some good information but you know you're going to have to provide us with some proof, no one is going to take you seriously until then...

I CALL BULLSHIT ON THIS NOOB ***

GOING FROM PLASTIC TO METAL D17 TO D16 SHOULD HAVE NO REAL AFFECT ON BEING N/A. SINCE THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH ARE MANI IS FOR F/I IT TENDS TO CRACK AND DOESN'T FLOW AS GREAT.

SO YOU SIR, ARE A FUCKEN NEWB. ITBS > ANY INTAKE MANIFOLD.

OH AND LAWL AT YOUR TUNING STOCK ECU.

started out 155crank, sounds like someone is reading too much +HP from the boxes and adding it to his STOCK RATED d17

lets see

d17a2 = 127
aem true pullies = probably says like +10 hp
exhaust = probalby says +20 or something
intake = +15 i bet or something weird

so if you have 178 at the flywheel, then that means you should have close to 142ish at the wheels. hmmmmm. that is a very hard thing to do with a N/A SOHC, especially without adding a lot of compression.

Steady on Sujak, let's give the guy a chance. We all know it sounds highly unlikely but let's wait and see.

even if it doesnt make the power numbers he claimed. if he got a d16 manifold to fit fairly easily its valuable to those going boost!
