vacum advance problem
hello, i have a 1988 honda accord lxi F.I., i just replaced my distb. with a rebuilt from my local parts dealer, ive dbl chked all my timeing marks,now when i start the car it will not come off idle, unless i manually supply an out side sorce of vacum to the vacum advance ?, could this be a bad distb. ?, or a faulty vacum problem ??, im completley stumpped ??, i dont know what else i can do!?? , any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time, tfireline

Your description is opposite of how the system works;
There is a thermal valve that passes vacum to the cold start diaphram of the advance, then when the engine warms up that vacuum is removed and the advance diaphram is controlled by the intake vacuum.
FITV out of adjustment?

hondadude wrote "Year and model Helps get better info" , i did post the year and model, but heres the info again, its a 1988 accord LXI, 2.0 F.I. , im not sure what you wrote in your reply ? , 1st , what is a FITV (does that stand for,fuel injected thermal valve?) and how do i check to see if its out of adjustment ?, 2nd my car ran fine with the old distributor in it, this is the 2nd one ive installed(returned the 1st 1 thinking it was bad!?being they are rebuilt,not new) the cars cpu doesnt show any error codes,and i dont have a chk eng light on, thanxs for any input..........
Actuially, that is Hondadudes signature, it was not specifically directed at you, but to the people who say "will XXX part fit my car?" and not give a discription.
Second, I dont believe that the distributor is the problem. Furthermore, there are no vacum lines going to your distributor, so how could it have a vacum advance?

do you mean the idle doesnt come down from cold idle? (1500 rpm or so) if so I doubt the distributor. make sure you didnt break and or the vac lines are leaking going into the vac advance.
Look for maybe other brittle vac hoses you might have leaned on during the install etc. an possibly broken .
if he vac advance wasnt working then it would seem to loose power in higher rpm seeing load.

ok, 1st , i dont think you know what your talking about,or you dont understand my post??,but my car DOES have a vacum advance,its on the side of the distb. ,now to see if i can clairifiy my post, i replaced my distributor due to the bearing going bad, with a remanurfactured one from my local parts place(auto zone), after install, the car would not come up off of idle(the car ran fine with the old distb. in it) , when you give the car gas it doesnt respond(REV. up) ive chked all vacum lines for leaks,none found, dbl chked the timeing marks,did compression test,everything chked out ok in those areas, so thinking it was a bad part, i returned the 1st one i bought and got a 2nd and installed it, i got the same results!??, the car was somewhat checked for any error codes in the comp.(the mech. is going to chk it a little more tomm.)but i have no chk eng. light on in the dash, sooooo, im stumped, and due to the high cost of sensor's(i dont have the cash to spend on replaceing all of them) i was wondering if any one here could help ?
old hatch, the car will not rev up unless i put an externall vacum to the vacum advance hose on the distb. side, only then will the car come up off of idle, to about 12-1500 rpms, yes ive chked all lines inclueding vacum and found no problems, the car is in a engine rebuild shop now and the mechanic there is just as stumped as i am, ive read where my car has two different distbutords that went in this model, one is "Tech" internalls, the other is a "Hitachi" internalls ingnition system, as of now , i have the Tech installed, unfortunately i no longer have my old distb., my parts house needed it as a core deposite, it doesnt matter if the car is cold or warmed up, i still can not get any throtle response !?, any thoughts would greatly be appriciated, thanxs, tfireline......................................

take a look at your map sensor, and/or the tps sensor... by reading your posts, those are the first things that came to my mind... it seems as if the computer isnt seeing a change from either sensor.... however it doesnt make sense from what you said about external vacuum source.... hook a meter up to the tps's signal wire, and snap the throttle the voltage should jump around depending on how much the throttle is open.
