Default 92 Accord- NEEDS SPEED

My buddy has a 92 accord LX, 208,000 miles(Its been around the block). Yesterday he got fed up with the cars speed after we participated in a "street race". It goes like this, we were on our way to a club and my other friend has a GTI and lined up at a light with a Cavalier, of course the GTI Pwned it. so the driver of the Chevy dropped back and took a shot at us. neck and neck, but the little **** Chevy pulled a little more than us(he was a manual). So just as he pulls ahead my buddy(the owner of the Honda) tells me that the driver of the Chevy doesn't know that he is willing to hit him cause his car is a POS. So i told him that we will drop his exhaust at the down pipe this week, we are also going to get a cone filter to replace the stock air box. What are some other penny mods that we can do to get some noticeable horse power and speed? Thanks!

Will have to start laying some 100 dollar bills to really get "noticeable" horse power.
Bolt ons are fine... but noticeable power will be made once you work the engine inside!
Header, intake... exhaust.... pulleys.. all that you can feel a little difference after they are installed but.... what is the point of having a quick ride if it drives like crap or handles like crap. Not saying that your friend's car is crap, but.... shouldn't he start with "lowering" (properly!) and handling before jumping into performance?!

street racing FTL

cutting exhaust for a 2hp increase FTL x2

cone filter for sound and no increase in hp FTL x3

asking for cheap modification idea's to significantly increase hp FTL x4

trying to mod a 15 year old car with 200k+ miles on it FTL x5

i'd say overall you = FTL.

I'm really glad someone is being helpful... he got the car for free so i don't understand why you'd have to be such a ignorant **** when it came to a simple Q&A topic

u should keep the exhaust, but run 2 3/4 in pipes back from the cat, gut the cat and leave the box on just in case those one kinda people pull u over, and do a FULL fuel injection service on it. spray the throttle body with some cleaner and wipe thoroughly, add a bottle of injection cleaner, and put a good amount of intake cleaner through the brake booster for best results. ur car will smoke like hell, but that's all the carbon burning out of ur system. forget about a cone filter, and buy a cheap cold air intake off ebay for about 40 bucks. just doing that will give u about 20 to 24 hp.

A few tips on blowing your motor for minor to no signifigant gains at all(Which in this case 200,xxx+ motor really shouldnt matter)....

1. drive around with under half tank of gas
2. take off hood+doors
3. take off air intake....just run straight intake manifold
4. take out back seats
5. run straight header
6. octane booster w/ 91+ octane
7. start the car and lose the battery....you wont need that....
8. drain oil....add 1 quart....its sure to be light weight now....with all these excess useless pounds shed....your not gonna kno what to do....

all these above tips are sure to let you go out with a bang...and maybe a ticket....so please do us all a favor and just take H-T's advice....he has to put his time in and make his car what it can be....and please dont do any of the above....

ROTF!

Seriously though, if your penching pennies, find another F22A ($FREE-$500) and slap on a custom turbo kit.

But.....<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by gianinline &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

I did a little research and found the f22 to have lower compression. it was only 8.8:1 i think so that should work at around 12 psi with a used Garrett turbo that i have. i just don't want to have to run the oil return line and build a manifold. Since his motor has a short life to it, where can we get a new one if he runs into a problem? and what other Honda motors could we get that would be an upgrade? I have seen the h22 head on the f22 before, what id the degree of difficulty is that?

I would go the F22b1 route.....SOHC vtec for 1. its really cheap....2. with some minor boltons like a reliable cat-back exhaust, a good CAI, reliable 4-2-1 header (ex Megan) you could see some signifigant gains....and afterwards you could look into a cam regrind and also chipping your computer....the f22b1 whp is somewhere between 105 to 115....with the boltons....your looking at surely 120+whp.....decent but boost and spray will get you over the 175+whp hump....boost FTW

-suspension is a whole nother chapter....

Putting a turbo running 12psi on a motor with 200,000 is building a time bomb. That's probably not the smarted route. A good start would be to rebuild the motor and gain the 10-20 horsepower thats been lost over the last 200,000 miles.

dont cut the exhaust, his car will lose horsepower becuase the car wont create any back pressure, i recommend getting a test pipe, or hi-flow cat, and have a muffler shop install 2.25 or 2.5 all the way back from the cat, and just go straight all the way, dont even put a muffler on
could get a cheap cold air intake off ebay and put a K & N air filter on the end
Get a dc sports header would be really good as well, you get what you pay for when it comes to headers
Get rid of the spare and jack in the back seat, ur a bit more core, get rid of the a/c
pulleys would also be a good upgrade,
Go to a junkyard and buy a used honda prelude intake mainfold, one from the h23a motor non-vtec, this is the probably the most effective bolt-on upgrade, prolly cost 100$ and could get 15-20 whp, just a few ideas to dwell on

wouldnt get vtec route, f22a head flows way better, and is a lot better for boost as well, also you will only get like 5 horsepower as well

Bahaha, you're a dope. That won't gain anywhere close to 20 hp.
