interior? Is it just down an engine? if so, swap in a new engine and sell for way more. you only need a long block, or maybe even a block if the head is good!! bring the r back to life!

I say $10K. Someone could easily buy a JDM longblock and swap it in for less than $3K.

i dont know how you guys could say this thing is worth 10-11k?? the fact is that it has a blown motor!!

i would say around 6-7k as it would need 2500-3000 for a new longblock plus labor to R&R

thats like saying i could take my motor out of my 2000 gsr and sell it for 5k which i would think is outrageous

I agree.... there is no way this car is worth that much! Anyone who pays that is fuggin retarded.

The car is worth 7-8K depending on things that i cannot value simply bc the car is not in front of me to inspect.

With a blown motor, everything else from the REAL condition of body, interior, wheels, state of title and mileage all become extremely important factors when concluding what this car might bring.

No offense to the OP, but you guys are f-ing nuts.

10-11k???? no damned way.

take your original selling price (with the motor in its non-blown up state, sorry to hear about that btw) and subtract a REASONABLE cost to fix/build your block or to get a new one and have it put in.

unless you can get one of these guys to buy it for 10-11k, start with them as potential buyers!

take the value of the car as if the motor was not blown, subtract new motor/labor/parts needed to get it back to where it could be, there is your answer. dont forget that because the motor isnt the STOCK motor that may bring the value down a bit more because you will always suspect and be wary of a new motor installation, especially if it wasnt done by Honda at the factory.

it's the perfect time for you to rebuild your motor and make it a n/a monster.

Yea, but that's not what I want. I'd rather sell the car to someone with the passion to build it.

Lay off the caps, unless you're that passionate about a few thousand bucks....

I don't see any reason this can't go for $8500-9000.... To be honest if I had that much I'd pick it up right now no question.

Yup, exactly.

Given the high miles, if this car had a working motor, it would be worth maybe $11K. Figure the motor installation with labor is going to run you $4-5K, so the car is worth $6-7K with the blown motor. Just like coptzer said.

Anyone who claims it's worth a whole lot more than that is dreaming. But hey, if you really think it's worth more than that, here's what you can do. Buy it for $6-7K, and then try selling it, before or after swapping the motor. After you sell it, please tell us how much you ended up losing on the deal, so we can say "We told you so".

Please don't write in caps. It's considered yelling.

Anyways, to anwser your post: You couldn't be more wrong! There is no way that a Type R with over 120k and no motor is worth 10k.
There was guy that tried selling his Type R for 7k, and guess what? he didn't sell it!
Car is actually listed on eBay right now:

In all fairness, that car is not at all comparable to this one. It has a salvage title and is missing a whole lot of body and suspension parts that this one isn't.

There are two truths to selling cars that don't run: (1) The number of people who are interested in buying one is only a tiny, tiny fraction of the number of people who are interested in buying a car that runs; and (2) The market value of such a car is depressed because there is a significant risk in how much you would need to spend to make the car running again. And there is always that question nagging potential buyers: "If this car is worth spending the money to get running again, why isn't the seller doing that before selling it?" (For which the answer is obvious.) All of that put together often means a significantly lower selling price than the simple subtraction might indicate.

However, as long as you're not in any hurry to sell the car, you can always start with a high asking price (much higher than you think you'll get), and then see what offers you get for a few weeks, then if it's not sold you can lower the price a grand or two, see if that turns up any offers, and continue the process until you actually sell the car. That way, you've got nothing to lose but time (and any costs incurred in storing the car and the time value of the money tied up in the car). And with that approach, time will tell whose guesses turn out to be accurate.

God NO!

I am going to create a seller's guide for buying a used ITR. I swear people try and convince others to jack the price on their car bc they are afraid it will dwindle the value of their own precious car.

Listen to them... all extremely strong points made for exactly why its worth what they say it is. Oh...and valid information too
