CRX rust repair
Well this past week I bought my self a 1988 CRX HF. Wow was it a mistake. Tons of rust, plus its an HF so theres no power to really play with. But theres only 180,000 miles on her
. Right now I just dick around with in my friends field. We just consider it a go cart right now, plus its way cheaper than actual go-carts. Most people would say its not even worth it, you could buy a better shell cheaper, blah blah blah, I've decided to make the most of it. I plan on opening my own shop soeday, so Ive gotta learn a few things someday, so why not with this little beasty. Right now I have the rear interior stripped, hatch off, rear bumper and bumper support (it was so rusted I pulled on thebumper and the support came with it, fenders and passenger door. I bought myself a welder today so tht made me feel a little bit better, even tho now my bank is empty (car+welder= no money). Get paid Thursday!
Anyway, now for my question. I know people to full restorations on muscle cars and all, some tha hardley have any metal not infected with rust. They can put 'em up on body rotisseies so that they can rotate the car to get underneath to sandblast it, repair metal, and paint, could I do the same? Has any one tried putting a CRX or any EF on a body rotisserie?
And a few (not so good) pics of the exterior the first day I got it.

pics dont work
and i think that would be a great project, and yea they can go on rotisseries, theres a thread of a white crx getting a k20 swap and complete restore on here somewhere where he made his own rotisserie for it.
i was going to fix the rust myself as well, but i cant find a decent mig welder for under 600.

There we go. Ok yea I'll do a search for that then. I picked up a gasless flux-wire mig for about $200. Not that great but it'll get me going I spose. Oh and I now know why its painted with the black like that, some one had tried repairing the rust before, I found some fiberglass when knocking out rust bits. haha
holy poop...that car makes my car look like a brand new 2007 honda civic lol. i would actually buy another crx if you can. and use this one as a parts car. (except for the body) lol.

to u for wanting to restore it. i have 2 questions how much did u pay for it? and also was it in a flood????? looks like it has been under water. can you pull up the carpet and take pics of that??? good luck .
Not to say it's impossible, but it's damn near impossible to restore that shell.
For a restoration project you always hold out for the finest example you can find as it sits. Of course cost enters into this equasion as well.
To fix that much rust is going to require more time and money than what buying a different clean shell would cost you. I don't even think the A pillars are available as a panel new, so you'd have to get another clean donor car for some of the bodywork.
All in all, just keep it in the field, don't mess with the rust.

Lets all just have a moment of silence for this CRX, at only 180,000 miles of her life, a young girl indeed, the illness has finally overcome and there is no kemo strong enough to bring her back to life. just take her out for a few last rips on the road and put her out of her misery but make sure you do mark her as a donor ;-). seriously, anything is possible with the right amount of money but at this point, restoring this rex would be a labor of love because the time and money your going to put in it is going to far exceed any benefit other then a sence of great acheivment.
wow that thing is rusty. i think everyone's right on this one, it's gonna cost you more to fix it than to just pick another crx up. not that it can't be done...looks like a nice beater.

While he finds another shell, you should go back to school.

Actually you can get the rockers and quarters....might have to fab your own piece for the pillar and some of the areas under the bumper but I can see it as fixable.
If you have the tools and skills then by all means go for it.

If it runs, I'd turn it into a "fun car".
I'm talking field fun. Like dirt road racing and jumps. Doing burnouts with spare tires on the front. Doing e-brake slides on gravel roads. Do everything you've always wanted to do, but felt stupid doing in a regular car. Just don't go too fast, it may all fall apart.
