Default 1996 Accord LX Power locks problem and speedometer problem

I have a 96 Accord LX with 115,000 miles on it. I have two problems I hope someone may be able to help with:

On my driver side door, the power locks make a really louding buzzing sound when its locks. Any ideas what to do?

Also, my speedometer works only when it wants to. It is stuck on 20 MPH. It will work once in a while. As I am driving, the needle will sometimes just shoot up to the speed I am going and work. When I go slower than 20, the need will flicker a bit between 15 and 20, when I come to a stop it sits on 20. When the car is off, it goes back to zero as normal.

If anybody has suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Mike

The speedo is either a bad circuitry or VSS.

My car had a bad circuitry and the speedo just stayed between under the 0 and 140 mph.

If you are throwing a CEL it is the VSS, if not, it is the circuitry. Themuffinman did a writeup, and supplied me with a new circuitry to fix mine. You can find them cheap and it is an easy fix. Check the FAQ

Hey I saw your post about the speed gauge sticking at 20. I am currently having the same exact problem. How did you end up solving it?

Those door lock actuators can be fixed, remove the panel and take the three tiny phillips head screws out that hold the actuator in. magnetic screwdriver is a good idea.
Take the actuator to the work bench and open it up.
There is a little plastic tab that a spring pushes against, that tab is broken loose.
You can find a plastic rod to put between the case housing and tab to shim it back in place, then either glue it in place or use a soldering iron to plastic weld it.

So far as the speedo problem it is usually the speedo head or digital/analog convertor

Has any one succesfully repaired the speedometer in a 94-95 Accord that sometimes sticks at 20mph? I'm testing components on the PC Board and I haven't found anything bad. I'd really love to know how to repair these things.

if you want to keep your speedo, the best thing to do is send it out for repair. The down side is that it is costly and you will be waiting for it to come back. Alternatively, you can look for junked cars and get another unit for less and replace the main board or change the whole unit. But if your check engine light is on, then it's something else.

Hondadude, thanks for your 6 year old post. It came in handy for the 96 i just bought. When i figure out how to load up my fix pics i will. Thats the only thing missing from the post. Also i had help from a youtube video as to take the actuator out. Great info though and not too difficult of a fix at all.

I had a speedo/odo problem with my 1994 EX, I swapped the circuit board on just the speedo and it still didn't fix it. I tried re-soldering the board...nope. I went to the salvage yard and bought a third board and that solved the speedo stuck at 20 mph problem. Good luck.
