Default 1997 crv (stock engine) hesitates

my crv tends to hesitate, losses power and a popping noise from intake while i'm driving. i changed plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, rotor n cap. the car idles perfect and all fluids are fine. help!!!

Aahj, no i did not. i was trying to bypass that thought, hopeing it was a simpler problem. will changing the belt solve the problem? thanks

no, but if one was installed recently, it could have been a tooth off and will cause this symptom...it never hurts to check the timing anyway just to make sure.

The years of CRV's near yours and including have notorious problems with exhaust valves receeding into the cylinder head. The valves end up staying open and reducing compression far below limits. Worst case is the valves are burned and you must replace the cylinder head. Best scenario is that you can adjust the valves and put off replacment of the head for a while... I have a bad feeling that this is your problem.

I would do a compression test. If it is bad, perform a valve lash inspection. If you find tight valves and can get adjust them without the adjuster bottoming out then do another compression test. Once the valves are adjusted properly a second compression test will tell you if one or more valves are burned. Probably not even worth doing a wet/dry compression test since these engines have such a common problem with the whole exhaust valve issue.
