Default How to remove powder coated paint on rims?

I bought a set of HX rims and the previous owner of the rims powder coat it red to make it look like GT3 red but its not my taste. So what is the cleanest and simpliest way of doing this?

Use the Gel type stripper out of the jug. You can get it at the local autoparts store, you'll probably only need one, and it's easily more powerful. Just get a paintbrush and lay the crap on. It will EAT YOUR PAINT. After letting it sit for a while, hit it with a fairly coarse wire brush, and it will come off, down to bare metal. Be prepared for some mild chemical burns though. That stuff is not of this world.

^^ yeah, be sure to wear long sleeves and pants with some protective gloves and eyewear... that **** hurts, especially when you are so concentrated on getting all the paint off and dont want to go run and wash it off

Lol, it was like that when I did my first wheel. I was brushing at that **** and a gob of it got on my pants. Then, when brushing, my arm rubbed against my knee, and I was like, "wtf...ow, ****! OW! DAMNIT!" (while trying to get the **** off my arm)

Hard to describe, but it'll feel like that when you try it for the first time. Don't worry, no permanent *twitch* damage.

i tried aircraft stripper on powdercoat...it softened it a little, but didn't get a satisfactory result like on normal paint sandblasting sounds like the best option

I was going to say the same thing. I used aircraft stripper on a valve cover last year and used a power washer to rinse it all off. While wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I don't think I've ever ran into the house and into the shower quicker than that day.

Hmm... does it do ok on plastics? How much does it cost around? I painted my dash bezel like 4 years back... never sanded it or anything so I know the paint can/does come off if I try to chip it. The original black plastic under looks like it did before painting..

Should I leave it or strip it? or just buy another from a junk yard?

I think it may be too strong for plastic. You could always test an area out of site and see what happens.

i think it would be too strong for plastic.. just try going to a junk shop.. even regular paint thinner would melt the plastic.. i think..

Try a small amount of acetone on a rag. Should take the paint off easily.

it WILL eat away and literally melt any plastic interior pieces... i have used some carb cleaner on my center console and it took off all the texturizing.

i also used some in my glove box and it made it all dull and uneven.

i would get a new one at a junkyard if pressure washing your guage bezel with hot water doesnt take it off (it should tho)
