help w/ funny brake vibration & noise
ok, so I've had some Hawk HP Plus pads on the front of my CRX Si for some time, and just put the same type on the rear. I drove the car after installing them on the rear, broke them in properly, and a day later, the front is making a very wierd noise and vibration. it's not like i didn't turn the rotors, it isn't that type of vibration, it's almost like the rotor is moving back and forth in the caliper!
this only happens when i put a small amount of pressure on them, or when i'm turning. i've checked to see if they are rubbing anything (the tire, that is) and it isn't. I'm not sure what this is.
I almost wonder if the rotor was overheated, it's a funny dark purple color and shiny, could the caliper have malfunctioned, causing it to stay slightly engaged?
any help you could offer would be great!
I know it's coming from the left front, i did try out the pads once, hard on the brakes, real hard, figured they could take it, they are track pads and rotors usually don't get overheated from one hard stop from forty five, in about forty feet, ya know!!
also, i autocross about every month, so a hard hit from forty five is not uncommon, plus the front pads have been on there about a year, plenty of pad left, and new rotors when i replaced the pads!!!
