$4500 paint job? WTF??? pro painters HELP
Does anyone know how to give estimates on paint and body work? I think I am getting ripped off. I was told its 1500 to refinish car then 1500 in body work (almost 30 hrs) then cost to install all my ****. Is this right ????
If your **** has been caved in by a semi doing a wheelie, then yes thats a fair price but if your car has nothing more than a few door dings, its too high. You also gotta tell us what kind of paint job you want? You trying to candy it? What are your expectations? Are they going to finish it or just paint?

well they say I need 6 hrs worth of work on one door, and about 3 on the other, I will post pics and the paint is full dip with vw r32 deep blue pearl. Its going to be hard just by looking at pics but it seems really high. But I may be wrong

I just got my 96 prelude re-painted moonrock metallic ,and with 12 hours of bodywork and a full color change using PPG paint I paid $2K....
I was quoted anywhere from $1K----$5K....so I talked to people around town that had paintwork done by these shops and decided from there...best bet is to get multiple quotes and ask around for recommendations

well I got one other quote and is was close but considering I took most of the car apart, and am putting most of it back together they charge 48 and hr for labor so i guess my car needs 30hrs of body work???
If thats your car in the pics 4500 sounds right......I hate to start on what someone else has already started on..And by the looks of it that drs door has been work by a noob once before and the back of the car isnt any better
ok the doors are def. facked I know that, and its getting blocked and will be show quality so I guess it'll be all worth it in the end

i paid 3200 for a show quality paintjob back in 2002, they sprayed everything with HOK paint and it looked perfect
2 years later i had rust coming through and their body work was slowly pealing away
you get what you pay for and sometimes you dont...
point is research shops, see how their product is a couple years down the road and then go onto pricing
also some shops will cut deals with you for putting decals (sometimes little stickers) to get their name out at car shows/meets

well they do good work but I was seeing all these people geting pj's for like 1500 -2500 but like you said who knows what kind of job they got and how much body work they needed.
4500 would be about right for that car. our shop would have probably quoted near the same price. our average price on a paint job with bodywork is around 4. color changes are around 5k. we did just get in a big restore project on a 72 montego that is a 10k job, but it needs major work.4500 is a good price, but if its not absolutely perfect, you complain, say you want it fixed and your not taking the car unless its exactly that. shops charge for everything. removal of any part. bodywork per panel, paint per panel, paint per hour, installation of any part,etc....that starts to add up.
on couple of cars a got painted ranged from $1000-$2800
to save some body work, go and check some junkyards to
find some cleaner doors, or get some JDM doors.
probably cost you $100-$300, and it looks like your pretty handy
and can change them easily.
Do anything to cut down the bodywork time, cuase its not cheap.

well I may be getting somewhere with it, there are 2 guys that know him from nebraska and are trying to get hold of him, but nothing has come from it yet and probably wont anyway so we'll see..
We charged $2,500 for an over all on a Sunfire. The color was staying the same though so we didn't get into any jambs. The $2,500 was to break the car down, do minor body work on dings, and repaint every panel.

i would say 4500 is probably pretty fair for most shops. we just recnetly did a complete color change on a 300zx with some minor body work and everything except the bay for $7000. it went from the factory white to the new 350z factory pearl tri-coat white. just outy of curiosity, the hsop that ur taking it to, is it mainly a collision repair shop or a shop that does more all-overs? cause i know this is fucked up but some shops that specialize in collision repair/insurance work dont really like to mess with all overs thereofre they will quote u high price so that way if u r willing to pay the price at least its worth putting insurance work on hold for a couple of days. u gotta look at it like this, does the shop really care that much about the 1 car that u r gonna bring them or would tehy rather the hundreds of cars that statefarm willl bring them. u get what im saying?

Maybe this is why I got such ridiculous quotes here in AZ. A friend of mine in Sacramento got a similar ridiculous quote.
So how do you find the places that have reasonable quotes and aren't just insurance-paint-job-mills?
