1997 civic ex start problem
Hey guys newb here. I started my car yesterday and it idled rough like a cylinder was missing then it died. I popped the hood and my #4 spark plug wire came off the distributor cap. I plugged it back in and now it wont start.
I tested the wire and it read 1.3k ohms, so its still good.
When it fell off could it have arced and messed up the distributor cap in some way?
Thanks for replies.
Matt

Ok I replaced the distributor cap and it still wont start. Is there a fuse I could check that goes between the ignition?
I smell fuel when I crank it over so its obviously not fuel related.

When was the last time you did a tune up? Like the wires, plugs, rotor cap, etc. Check your fuse box and fuses under your steering column.
So I assume the starter is turning it over.
Assuming that, air/fuel/spark makes fire go.
your getting air, you smell fuel, so spark
pull a plug wire and have someone turn it over and get the plug wire to arch on the engine.
Plus how is it not starting? just keep turning over?? is it trying to start? dieing ? what?

Hey guys sorry. I should have posted more info.
Yes the starter turns it over, but it dosent start, the plugs smell like fuel, but they arent getting any spark. Its an automatic if that helps.
I put new plugs and wires on it 2 weeks ago(probably why the # 4 wire came off the distributor).
But yeah, its not getting any spark. How do I check the coil?
Which fuses would one check for no spark?

Well I checked the coil and the ohms read good. Then I tried testing the icv like in the writeup and made it to step 5 then was confused so I just went down and bought a new distributor slapped it on and it fired right up.
So it was the distributor.
So it was the distributor.
