Default Would you buy a LS for 2500?

I have a friend of mine who's selling a LS for 2500$ i was wondering if that was a great deal. I was just wondering because, I have a EK and I want to swap a motor, and I figured I can just buy the LS and take the motor from it. I know it's a LS it bites, but possibly build a ls vtec who knows?

Anyways leave only a serious opinion no need for a flamefest! If its a bad idea just say it.

What's your opinion?

LS VTEC swaps are very expensive most of the time and take alot of time and effort to do right. if i were you i would use that 2500 and put it towards a b16 or b18c1 swap...you would be way more satified in the long run i beleive. IF you are looking to boost the LS block is a good one though.
Just some food for thought.
good luck

No actually they are pretty easy. An Ls vtec swap can be done for pretty cheap. You just have to look hard for the parts. I bet your could get the head and everything else for the price you sell the shell.

Man, this is tempting haha. I told myself I was gonna get out of it, since I lived in CA you know cops are always out there popping hoods. I was planning to just get a DC5, but seeing this deal come up, it's really tempting.

I have a EK already, I had this guide teaching you how to build up a b20 and stuff, but I lost the guides. I'll keep my eye out for them. Don't worry I won't be doing this alone

I was planning to just get it swapped & bar'd and smogged and so on, but I heard you can't really get it bar'd if you swap heads and such.

I guess a guy can dream .

I have a stock B18B with EM1 airbox in my hatch, and it's all I could ever want until I have a second vehicle. It's got torque, it's got fuel economy, it's got low compression, it's cheap, it's easy to maintain.

It's a daily-driver's dream.

oh really? hm. well there are rumors going around where cops pop hoods open and even if you have receipts for the motor they still smash it. no idea, word on the streets.

anyways, is the process for getting it bar'd gonna be pretty painful?

It's pretty easy if you've got a solid swap that is the same age or newer than your car, the correct OBD, no codes, and can pass emissions.

Yeah, that's the same thing I'm wondering.

The LS is like the best motor out there IMO. Maybe not the smartest to do an all-motor build with, but long trans = great gas mileage, it's only got like 4 or 5 lb/ft tq. less than the GSR, for like 1/3 of the price.

It's basically got the same power as the GSR - only difference is the more aggressive cam, better head design, VTEC, etc. etc. - but the only thing that makes the HP 142 of the LS, and 180 of the GSR is the RPM redline. In term sof torque, sheer, phsycail power, they're virtually identical.

LS/VTEC is a waste unless you plan on swapping out internals (either low comp for boost, or high comp for all motor).

LS-T is the cheapest B series boost you can do, and on stock internals can hold damn hear as much HP as the GSR.

LS = Win - ALWAYS.

@ OP:
I say buy it, you'll have the mounts, linkage, ECU, everything you need to swap it in. Then you can sell the 'teg as a shell or hang onto it - whatever.

It depends on the friend...did he really abuse it, or was this his baby?

Yeah, I <3 the LS.

Then again, I <3 the D series and everybody seems to hate them too.

One Q though:
Why did he build up the motor if he's only making 233whp? The stock internals can take that more than happily.

Ah, I C.

That setup is a nice setup as-is - even without the turbo, maybe with a 100 shot for a track day or something.

Very nice.

EDIT:
The LS ownz, everybody always bitches about the trans but the trans is just about the same ratios as the EX/Si trans on '92-'95 civics.

It's not long, it's just that the B16 and ITR are just ridiculously short.

What the expletive are you talking about? My friend is selling the integra for 3000$, he would sell it to me for 2500$ but I don't want to deal with the bar etc.
