i just strip my axle nut what's the best way to get it off without damaging the thread i want to reuse the axles.

gently cut it with a dremel......don't cut all the way through, as not to damage the threads underneath, cut just enough to pry it off with a screwdriver, etc....good luck......
PS how in the heck did you manage to strip that huge nut anyway?......

 

My guess trying to use a standard socket. Thats a tuff one, man... Lots of torque on those nutz.

You could use an air hammer and a chisel or punch bit. Put some old lug nuts on the lug studs to protect the studs in case you slip with the air hammer. Run them all the way to the bottom of the stud.

Did you unstake the nut? The part of the nut that you pound into the recessed area on the end of the axle to keep the nut from backing off. Use a punch, or even an old screw driver to push the bent in part of the nut out of that area. I have had a hard time getting axle nuts off with an impact without unstaking the nuts.

 

yes i did but now i'm at the point where i think i ruin the thread so i'm just going to hack it off and not worry about threads it's just a parts car anyhow. but i was going to put the axles in my car. but i find a sedan with a good driver side. and that was the side i'm having probs with but the pass side is loose.
