my opinion is get the car first, learn how to drive the car (im not trying to say that you dont know how to drive) and go from there. Most people, including myself will say go with i/h/e first.

get the best security you can get for the car. example alarm and clubs and wheel locks. long story short. protect your investments. dont do like me and learn the hard way

there is no such thing as a 1996 itr.(in the states anyways)
only 1997-2001 here. and price anywhere between $15000-23000. (i.e i paid 17K for mine with 30K miles)

driving school.
oh, and i wouldnt do any mods besides brake pad and fluid upgrade before i tracked the car. it WILL outdrive you. its so much fun though. good luck.

This is an enormous topic that can't really be answered well until you decide what you plan to do with the car. Do you want to race in a series? Do you want to mod for respect and pride? Do you want to mod to learn about how your car functions? Each of these has a different answer.

Generally speaking most mods are extraordinary investments for incremental gains. A Comptech Ice-box + intake is $300 for ~2-3 horespower. Light wheels for around $1800 may take a couple of tenths off of a 1/4 mile time. You are probably not going to notice much difference with your car until you have spent around $3-5k in mods. Its worth thinking about. Just my 2 yen.
