Default Transmissions that mate with d16y8?

The tranny on my d16y8 has a few too many grinds, especially going from 2nd to 3rd. I almost wanna rebuild it, but not sure if it's worth the money... I think I'm just gonna find a used one, hopefully in better condition. Which transmissions will fit to my motor (and line up properly in my 96 ex), and which ones would yield the best acceleration?

Or, if anyone can tell me where i can get a reasonable deal on a rebuild kit, that would also help.

No, 99-00 Si's have B16A2 motors, 92-95 Civic Si/EX have D16Z6, which is basically the OBD1 predecessor to the D16Y8.

thanks for clarifying. so what's my best option? sticking with the y8 tranny? the trannies from 99 & 2000 ex's will work on a 96 ex right? also, still open to suggestions to splurge on a rebuild. thanks to everyone who's posting.

92-00 EX transmissions will work and have relatively the same gearing as you are used to.
