Default type r head cam caps question...

i am buying a type r head from a friend of a friend and he has everything for the head with the exception of the bolts for the cam caps.... is that something i should be concerned about? i know that no cam caps are interchangible, but what if the assemblies are not bolted down and missing the bolts? from reading other posts on HT ive found that you cant order these bolts from the dealer...so where do i get them and is it even worth buying... hes askin 300 for the head...

For $300, I would buy it if it were a bare casting.

Why in the world would you not be able to order the bolts from the dealer??
They have a part number don't they.

^ Those are still in the Research and Developement stage. Actually, they are being released under a sub-company, called ERAD (Engine Research and Developement). I'm expecting release by mid-December to early-January. Still working on getting Jasma to go in on it.

Why would someone have a type R head with no bolts? Why so cheap?

You can buy the bolts with no problem. It's the caps you can't buy seperately. Assuming that the caps you're getting are the original ones for that head I don't see a problem.

what is it with people losing the bolts for the caps? When I bought my b16 head for my LS/VTEC, it had everything, except those bolts. WTF!? I had no luck getting them through the local dealership. I eventually found a guy who had over revved + nitrous on a b16, and he sold me the bolts I needed. (for a friggin' hundred bucks. Good deal I figured though, since through Honda, my estimate was in the 300 dollar range)

The head and the caps are machined together as a set from the factory. Due to variations from one set to another, mixing and matching caps and heads could cause a problem. You might get away with it, but it's somewhat sketchy.

The bolts are pictured in this link. #'s 16, 17, 20 and 32.
