New sub wiring question
I recently just blew a voice coil on my Alpine SWR-1221D sub. One works, but shuts the amp off after i turn the volume up. I have tested my amp, with an audiobahn sub and it powered it flawlessly. I have bought a new sub now, and just questioning how i should wire this.
Equipment
1 Alpine MRD-M605 mono amp
-400x1 @ 4 ohms
-600X1 @ 2 ohms
1 Alpine SWR-1242D sub
-Dual 4 ohm voice coils (instead of 2 per VC like my previous)
In searching for diagrams, i actually found my exact combination on a past sale on crutchfield.

So i know that the amp will power the sub. I have determined i could run that combination 2 ohms... but would there be a possibility of 4 ohms?

I didnt think so
I was contemplating buying a new amp. But i just checked over at best buy and they had the new model of my amp and the same sub. It hit pretty hard. I am not looking for earth shattering bass... just a good amount.

I think I have ran it 4 ohm... Here is the back of my alpine ported box

If i were to connect the + and - from each coil into a single post. My mono amp would be running 4 ohms. Because the amp would be connected to the box, and the pieces of metal would connect to the second set of + and - . I have it hooked up that way now, but would it be more benificial to run it 2ohms? I would get more RMS from my amp. Or should i keep my 4ohm wiring with my 4ohm sub? My sub is rated at 500 rms, and my amp could push it 600 which would be a good combination.

Run the sub at 2 ohm mono and watch the gain and you will be fine. The box does not determine the ohm of the sub.
The sub has 2 4ohm VC. That will never change, but the way i wire it changed the impedance. So if i hook up the separate positive and negative posts to the terminal and then power them with my mono amp it would be 4 ohm. But if I jump the 2 terminals - to - and + to + on the sub. I only have to power the opposite poles. So that inturn would be 2 ohm. Just questioned what would sound better
Im learning. So if im wrong feel free to correct me.

Im sort of lost but i think you can only wire it in parrallel(2ohm) or series(8ohm)
Just hook up your 2 positives to the positive of your amp and the 2 negatives to the negative of your amp for a 2 ohm load.
The only other way is in series for an 8ohm load which means your amp will only put out 200rms.
In theory the lower the impendance the more control and less heat your amp will have but its designed for 2ohm and so nothing to worry about just run it at 2ohm.
If you want 4ohm you need the dual 2ohm voice coil or single 4ohm voice coil.
or another identical sub.
