Default This is driving me NUTZ!

I'm getting new wheels and can't decide between 15's and 17's?I'm dropping my car with 2.25 & 2" Neuspeed Race springs.I'm interested in any pics of either. I've ,seen 15's on a rex and a hatch with Neuspeed Race springs, would like to see a car with 17's.Just want to compare and make a final decision.By the way the 15's that i want only way 13.2 pounds. Thanks for the help.

15" for sure man they fit under the wheel whels and you'll get more accelaration with them instead of 17"

One thing to consider is that with 17's, you'll have less tire mass as well, and tires weigh a lot. I'm a believer in the fact that if you get 17's made from the right material, you can have a lower overall tire+wheel weight than its 15" counterpart. As for overall diameter - this is the whole idea of low profile tires! GRM did an article on this (it's on their webpage) and found the 17's to be the best for overall lateral grip. Unless this is a race car that'll need new tires all the time, I'd go with 17's. The only drawback to me is the price of the tires.

it's not weight that matters most, it's inertia that matters. The 17" wheel places more mass farther away from the axis at which it spins, which makes it harder to accelerate/decelerate. It may not be a noticeable difference between the 15s and 17s, but physics says there is. IMO, the 15 looks much better on the 4g. There were 17s on my car when I bought it and it looked cool, but a little ridiculous. The 15s look much better.

I say, given the wheelbase area, stick to some light 15's. When I say light, I mean no heavier than 14lb per wheel with whatever tire you want. I look for stability with out super stiff side wall and enough sidewall in case of the tire roll on the edges. Also, I would opt for something that wouldn't attract so much attention as to get stolen. 17s are cool for show and that about it in my opinion, especially on a CRX. 17s are too big in fact and you will have clearance issues. Plus the ride is horrible on your spine. I say stick to something that is cool because 15's still have the potential to be just as good as 17's if not better.

Tires filled with air have a higher density than most alloy wheels on the market today. When you use more wheel and less tire to fill up the total diameter, you are reducing the amount of weight that is on the outside of the total object (this weight would be the weight of the tires). The overall weight would be less, and the weight on the very outside would remain the same since it is composed of tire just the same as on a 15" wheel. When you go further in, however, as soon as you hit the 17" wheel, the density from that point on to the center is less. The 15" wheel however, has 2 more inches of more dense tire to travel through before it hits the less dense alloy that the wheel is composed of. So by that, more weight would be on the outside of a 15" wheel+tire combo.

get the 15's. i have seen too many civics and crx's rolling around on 17's, and they look a bit silly. they make the car look tall and stubby. even if the 15's are heavier in batman's words, which i don't think is true, they are still the better choice. it is also much easier to find good tires in 15" and for a lot cheaper than 17"

OK, I checked out a post talking about wheel size and a point was brought up and I'm trying to find out more about it.IT was reffered to as lateral mass, explained as if you take a 17" wheel tire package that equals the same diameter and weight as the 15", it would still create torque loss and accelaration loss.Due to the fact that the weight is now farther away from the axles.Sorta like sitting in a chair and spinning around, as your spinning you stick out your leg or arm. You'll begin to slow down.Or like a figure skating the tighter the spin , keeping all the weight as close to the center of the spin, the longer the spins last.I would like to learn more about this.Does anyone know where to find more?Or a formula to calculate the differences?

17" rims on a crx with a 2.25" drop?? Compared to a crx with 15" wheels and a 2.25" drop.... Just think about the logic of it all..

17" wheels don't belong on a crx.... period!!
