there will be days when it turns right over and starts right up.
other days it decides to not even crank or turn over. i turn the key and hear nothing.
fuel pump is priming(not that it matters cause it doesnt crank). already resoldered a new clutch switch. got a brand new starter in. fresh odyssey battery. brand new grounds all tight. fuses are all good.
it boggles me because its so night and day. either works or doesnt.
my thoughts are that it is the ignition switch, any thoughts? or ways to test this?
its a 91 crx si, with a obd0 b16. any help is appreciated.

yea it could be your ignition switch, or even a poor repair (no offense) at the clutch switch. I have never heard of repiring the switch just replacing it. one way to find out if thats the prob or not is too jump the connector to the clutch switch with a piece of wire or a bent paper clip (which is what I use) and see if it starts the car when it's messing up. if it's your ig switch then when it's messing up all your cluster indicators (CEL, brake light, batt light, etc.) should flicker or npt even be on when you just barliy turn the key back. This may or may not make sense to you but just play with the key posistion when it's in start mode cause there should be no flickering of any lights at all, that will be the indication of a short in the ig switch. if it does end up being the ig switch you don't have to replace the entire lock cylinder you just have to replace the backing of the switch were the solder joints are.
Just check these 2 things before you go further
don't worry, it can't be too hard of a prob to figure out

thanks a lot for the ignition switch info. but as far as the test for the clutch switch. . that is (in essence) my repair. i made a switch out of it. i basically jumped the two wires into a switch. . .
anti theft.

I have the exact same problem on my 89 CRX DX I just bought. The intermittent starting seems to be completely random - sometimes it will crank but not start, sometimes it won't crank at all, sometimes it will start right up, sometimes it will start after a long crank.
Additionally, this seems to happen regardless of whether the car is cold or hot. It happens when the car has sat overnight, and it happens when I try to restart it after a prolonged drive.
Battery, plugs, and ignition switch have all been replaced. What gives? Help!
