Default shifting?

i dont own a bike but i will soon. i have a question to ask about shifting. my friend has a 04 Yamaha R6 and i was taking to him about shifting, and he says that he never uses the clutch when up shifting, only when down shifting does he use the clutch. to me this doesnt sound right but, he says that since the transmission is a dogmesh trans no harm is done to the trans and that you would wear your clutch and flywheel out if u used it wen up shifting. is this correct?

Yep he's right, and if you're just cruising around you can also downshift w/o the clutch

Google search. Less than one minute.

My take on it is, when done correctly, there is no damage done to the transmission. Of course, there is a margin for error.

i know you CAN shift w/o the clutch but the price diff if you miss a shift just once to me outways the cost of a new clutch. new clutch plate cost far less than $50 i think and almost anyone can put it in. now a new gear does not cost much either. but the labor does.
anyways i always use clutch

just use the damn clutch and don't be lazy, your new to driving bikes learn to use it first and worry about more important things like not wrecking into a guard rail

Then you aren't clutchless shifting as good as you could be. It should be quick and instant without a jerk.

I only clutchless shift going down the main straight of tracks. I've talked to some experienced riders who prefer to use the clutch for all shifts still. matter of preference I guess
