Default My shifter isn't working

My shifter on my 1994 Honda Accord LX just moves back and forth and i don't know what the problem is, I am stuck in 3rd gear can anyone help????

Did you check the linkage at the shifter or transmission ?? Do you see the shift arms on the tranny move . You can move them with your hand.

Have you looked to see any thing ?

Well i don't know much about car's and this is my first real Mechanical car. All i know is how to replace certain part's for performance parts but i'm trying to learn, and i've talked with a couple of my friends and they think it's the shift Linkage that might of snapped

Well how hard were you ripping on the shifter when it broke ???

You can see the linkage on the transmission . Just look to see if both cables are on the transmission . If so then take the console out and get to the shifter linkage , check to see if there one the shifter. If so the you need to move the transmission shift arms , If they move then you might have a broken cable .

Process of elimanatiion .

Oh thank's and I was also wondering in case i needed to buy the shifter linkage cable how many feet of cable might i need?

Uhhh .... You might want to go to honda dealership and tell them you need another shift cable . They will get you what you need.

It also can be something else. Do a search under "gear stuck" with archived content selected. Read some of the other threads.
