Default ok no flamming.... I need to picture my car dropped 2.5" so hacksaw time.....

I picked up a set of stock CRX springs for me to choppy uppy. I need to see how low 2.5" of drop will be and how low i like the car to sit..

Now i understand this will take all day and ill be pulling pout severl times and recutting and adjusting the height.

Now is there any baseline height that it drops it from vutting X number of coils.

EX. 1" is 2 coils....... etc.

***** The reason im doing this is because i dont want to do what my buddy did with his car and cut aftermakret racing springs to make the car sit more level. I also want to see if I like my car real low or if i should get say a .75" drop with H&R.

Also I would like to see if my rims are even gonna fit under my fenders if i drop moire then an inch.

Here's 2" if that helps any....

I hope you have shortened shocks, my 2" drop springs destroyed my stock shocks from bottoming out all the time.
My tire size is 195-50/15 and the back tires rubbed a little with my old wheels (different offset) but don't rub at all with these wheels.

I want to get some neuspeed race and toiko struts. I just want a base line for how to cut springs.

I dont know how to do it cause I dont often gheto rig my car at all. I usually buy the right stuff but know i dont know what right stuff i need. THX

Right now it's just the blown out stock shocks and bushings with some Suspension Techniques springs (advertised 1.8" drop, but mesured 2"exactly on my car) that I got really cheap from a friend. I'm saving up for some Konis. Handles like crap right now, my front wheels chatter horribly if i hit the slightest bump while accelerating.

I used to hear people say "so many coils = so many inches" but I'm pretty sure it's different for every car.
If you're not going to accually drive on the springs, just see how it looks, you could always do the old school "blow torch" trick; with the car's weight on the springs, heat the springs with a torch until they drop to the desired height. You have to be very careful to continually switch sides of the spring so it drops evenly, and like i said, i wouldn't accually drive the car with them.

nono DON'T use a torch.
on 4g springs, it's about .5" for each coil you cut.
or you can figure an adj. coilover spring is approx. half the heigth of a stock spring and those generally yield a 3" drop.
good luck.

i thought that if you cut stock spring, yes you lower your car, but it is not stiffer susp and the ride is bouncy. Hit a bump on the freeway and bounce for the next mile
that kind of sucks if you to lower for better handling.

just gotta tell you now.. neuspeed race springs aren't going to make you happy.. they suck... just roll with some skunk 2's.. gotta get that good coil to cup action to make it look good or you can do what i did and just roll with just the skunk 2 spring..

Cutting your stock springs is not a good idea. Don't be so cheap and spend the $200 for Eibachs or even the $300 for G.C.'s Cutting the stock spring setup will result in poor handling, and structurally unsound shocks which could get you into serious trouble. Chopped shocks have been known to cause accidents every once in a while... And I wouldnt want that on my conscience, would you? Its not worth it.

This like those people that talk about removing the side impact braces from their door panels so that they can loose weight - on a STREET CAR!

I hope you dont mind bouncing all around and ****, your ride will be complete ****. Just buy a set of ebay springs... They will be thousand times better than bouncing everywhere. Good luck though.

actualy i have h&r race springs and it gave me a 2.35 drop in front and 2.2 in rear
my stock wheels are tucked so i think they made a nice drop on my 4th gen.handling is great only regreat is kyb grx struts (there just cheap) but i got it all for around 300 springs themselfs are around 170$ maybe try those..

I bought a 88 crx dx a while back for 500bucks, and cut the springs on it (like it mattered). And suprisingly it rode just as good as stock. It didnt have any after bounce if i hit a bump. You guys can talk all you want, but i know from experience.
I just measured from the top of my wheel to the top of the fender, 2 and a half in the front and 3 inches in the back. Then i cut the spring how many inches i needed to lower it from the top. I didnt go by coils, just inches, and where ever it landed, i cut it. I cut it with a torch, cause the shop saw wouldnt cut it fast enough. But my friend used a bandsaw on his 98 hatch, and had no problems.
I know of people that heat their springs, which results in the bouncy ride you guys are talking about.
I have nuespeed springs on my car, (previous owner mod) and my car should not be as low as it is! The ride is ok, but id pick stock cut ones over the nuespeed.

SlowCivicDX,

What springs did you use for the 2.5 inch drop? What size tires are those? Do they rub?

I have the EXACT same car. Gold DX. I ordered CP-F wheels which will be @15", same size as your GSRs.

Gold hatchback rule!!! But, they're APC lowering srpings that I got from like $20. You can get them from Jegs for $110 new. The tires are 205/50R-15 And nope no rubbing, the springs are surprisingly stiff. And Denny317, it's lower than the pic looks, I still rub on the taller speed bumps.

2.5" drop
Where did you measure from to come up with 2.5"? your car looks higher than mine (the white one above) and you're running bigger tires than me with no rubbing, where I'm comming close to rubbing with 195-50/15's

The way You're supposed to measure drop is to measure from the center of the hub to the fender well. Measuring this distance both before and after on my car gave me exactly 2"

ok can some one explain how this hole coilover thingy works.

on ground controls site it says 1" to 4" adjustable.

Does this mean i can have 1" for long bumpy trips and 4" drop when im at a show and 2.5" for daily driving????

That would be the ultimate solution cause i can put it at the height i want

how much are these is 299 US a good price and how well do they ride.???

Would i need aftermarket struts??? IF so how much will they cost. Im asking this cause i just got new struts when i bought the car 2 months agoTHX again guys
