Default Alternator Problem

When i took my alternator to advance autoparts they checked my alt. and it was good but when i put it on the car and plug it up it only puts out like 11.5 volts and the charge light will never come on. BTW it is on a 95 prelude si with a H22 swap.
any help would be much appreciated

I'm not real familiar with the prelude alternator but... I have an 03 civic and i know with newer alternators they not only have your normal field and batt wires but there are two additional wires. These alternators work with the ecm and eld unit to help with charging...

-if you have a two wire alternater then its pretty simple and you may just have a bad connection somewhere or none at all because if the alternator is runnin even the tiniest bit you wont see 11.5... thats having no alternator at all

-if it's the newer design (which i doubt) or for all of you who like to learn and haven't seen these wonderful electronic messes... check this out http://findarticles.com/p/arti...66330

-BUT if this is your case then its possible something electrically is wrong with your ecm, or eld... but for your sake i hope not...

Make sure the alternator is grounded well.
