Whats the standard size Argon bottle for tig
I've got an 80CF tank. Its all you can outright buy from my welding store. You can lease anything from a 120 to a 240 from them. I paid $127 for the bottle (full), and refills are $24.
I have a 120 bottle that costs me like 31.00 to fill, and I have a 60 bottle for my backpurge setup. Honestly though, since I've been doing fab full time since early April that amount is not adequate. I might have to go to a larger bottle or something. I'm filling them pretty often.
The 120 bottle is pretty adequate though and should get you 6 hours of welding or so depending on your gas flow setting.

I got a good deal on several 120 bottles at a auction, the cost me 48.26 per fill. which is the cheapest places around here. like RC000E said, they are really too small, we get them refilled way too often...

This is due to them charging for the hookup and wasted gas. My place charges me a "hookup fee" and then a set fee/cu.ft for the gas. For my 80CF bottle, the gas charge is $7, the hookup is $20.

I used to keep two separate bottles, now I just use one big one (well, big for me) a tee and two regulators off one bottle. It saves the hassle of having to refill a backpurge bottle half way through a job and then fill the shielding gas bottle a day later, or some other similar stupid scenario. Less trips to the welding store= more money for autocrossing!
on the topic of argon bottles, I am using a 150 cf and still am on my first tank. I've had it for almost 2 years now and only recently have I really starting welding more than a couple minutes at a time. Is there a good indication of how many cf I have left in the bottle based on psi? There is 750 psi in there now.
i have used 120's and 320 ish size bottles and i like the bigger bottle. it is a bitch to lift up on the welder but it laster for a few weeks so you change bttles alot less often. iirc i pay $30-40 for the 120ish and $50 for the 320ish bottles.

Ive got the 300CF bottle and am glad I got it. Bad thing is you cannot buy them anymore since 9/11. For just home use though, the 120CF bottle will do you just fine.
How the hell...? The Praxair by me quoted $51 to fill my 80cf tank, and $160 filled to buy another 80.
They tell me to just swap bottles...is Praxair supposed to offer just a refill thats cheaper? I just got my 20cf (got when I was teaching myself
) swapped for a full bottle and it was over $30, so this kinda sucks. I guess I'm a n00b when it comes to welding gas refills.

I just bought another 330cf bottle last week.
I've got 2 150 bottles and 2 330's now, we refill them monthly or so, depending on the jobs we do. I think it's about $32-38 to fill the 150's and $58 to fill the 330's.
