k20a head
Hi we are currently planning on building a new engine and was told to use the k20a head. I see there is a k20a, k20a1, k20a2, k20a3. Are all of these the same casting or are each one different?
Wrong. Stock form they are all the same, meaning k20a2-k20a-k20z.
Only head thats a little off on flow are the TSX heads, as those were meant to give you a little more grunt in the midrange.

misinformed ...
heads are not all the same. the ITR/CTR, Type S, TSX and 06+ Si all have holders for LMA are are real iVTEC with middle lobe cams, etc.
the others are economy type motors.
the TSX and K20Z heads are the same castings, the older Type S heads were different.
the CRV (one of the econo motors) flows very well but don't have the true iVTEC to hold LMAs etc.
you can, however fit the True iVTEC rocker assembly in any of other econo heads by swappign around the rocker pins to keep one valve locked on vtec all the time so that the vtec rocker doesn't stay "loose" when in non VTEC.

Well, now THAT i didnt know! I always assumed that the SI's were the same as Type S as it was 2liter, but now that i think about it i was wrong about that also on euro R heads, as those are TSX's also.

Just a little more info for you guys...the ports do not matter at all. This is a full race application and will be ported and moved around to the max. It will also be a sheet metal intake with a carburator. So flowing aside are they the same bare metal cast just with different portings?
Between the tsx and the Type S, yes, just remove some material from the tsx head, and you have a k20a2/k20a head. Also the difference is not that big at all comparing the two, i remember nikos said that tsx flowed like 278 and rsx like 290? I believe..

For those interested, theres more info on flow of heads of the k series family in here.

Enjoy.
