There is a VIN stamp on it somewhere, it should say EM1 in the 4th, 5th, and 6th digits if it's from an Si.
B16a2's came in more than just the 99-00 Si fellas.

I wouldn't buy any motor with the vin tag ripped off.
it scream's "stolen"

No, the only other places are on the vehicle itself. And OP, I second what everybody else is saying here. That motor is most likely stolen but it definitely is from an EM1 or Del Sol VTEC. The block looks kind of oil soaked to me as well, you may want to do a compresson / leakdown test on it before you think about installing it.

that motor probably came out of a honda-tech members stolen si lol...and yes there is another vin number on the block by the oil pan in the front but it probably looks the same as the one on the tranny since this motor is so hot if you touch it you might catch on fire. Nobody could mess that vin up by accident. lazy asses could have atleast unscrewed the rivet thingies and for the person that said del sol vtec nope that would be a B16a3.

And how could you tell with the lack of vin?
It could be from an EM1 or an EH, or a VTI

pretty sure nobody brought that over from europe and if they did it would just have the holes on the tranny with no threads even.and EH what do you meen by that? if you meant del sol it's eg2 and it would have a three bolt cam bracket.

USDM del sols have eg in their vin.
USDM 5th gen civics have EH in their vins, not eg.

cmon guys...stop debating back in forth. We all know the em1 (99-00) civic si only came with the b16a2. the del sol vtec (very rare )came with the b16a3. So yes you bought a 99-00 b16 motor, and i would not be worried about the mssing vin plate. My tranny has no vin plate, but i covered the holes with steel epoxy, which you can get at any autopart store. In the other hand, if i were you i would ake out all the interanals from the engine itself and get rif of the block since you ahve no idea if its stolen or not. The head and tranny you can keep since their is no way you can identify if its stolen or not.
Um........

I'm not going to agree or disagree on this one.

wrong like usual do some research before you post incorrect stuff. you got the EH part on the the 92-95 civic right, but no B16a2 in those, and once again USDM del sols are EG2 like I said and came with B16a3's......

Chances are the engine is stolen...but you really have no way of knowing for sure. Where did you get it?
And for the experts: If you are unsure if an engine is stolen or not, what is the harm of installing it anyways?
