Default K20A2 swap to K20A

So I have a 2005 RSX type-s.

I want to swap out my motor for the type-r motor.

what am I going to have to change? I'm assuming most of the stuff will be compatible, but what exactly?

I'm sure someone has done it before. Did you run into any problems or did it go smoothly?

2005 came with k20z1 not k20a2.
k20z1 is rated at 210hp or 201 new SAE hp
type R k20a is rated 220 ps =217hp
you can check k-series specs here http://honda-portal.com/engine..._id=4

So really the difference is 7hp.
z1 has almost same cams as k20a.
k20a's PRC intake and exhaust manifolds are better than z1's but RBC intake mani will blow away PRC and any race header will make more power than k20a's ex mani.

You already have same final drive as k20a but ITR comes with LSd which goes for like 400 bux.

So the only big diff is 11.5 compression pistons vs. z1's 11.0

for 6 thousand that k20a goes for u can get wayyy more power with ur stock engine.

do you think the ITR header will open up the exhaust flow a lot more? I know it will flow better, but power wise, what do you think it would be?

ITR header will make more power than stock header for sure, It is perfect for ppl who have to stay legal and keep cat.

i put a k20a in my 02 rsx-s a few months ago... everything will be compatiable. the only thing you need to change is the exhaust mani (and swaybar) ....but to the OP i dont recommend droppin 5-6 g's on one unless your current motor went to **** (like mine did)... with a fraction of the cost for a k20a your car could far surpass the performance of the k20a.

you are better off just swapping off some parts on your motor now with some stuff on the type r motor.
the k20a hp is measured on a higher octane gas i think anyways because that's what they use in japan.

If you want to make power comparable to the ITR K20a just add a couple bolts ons. For example: Aftermarket cams, KPRO, Header, and Intake. Then you should be about 220 to wheels.

The K20a produces 220 to the crank and about 200-210 to the wheels with the parasitic loss from the drive train. If you want any more power then go all out with 12.5:1 compression pistons and a lot of dyno tuning!

I can't stand people that waste money to have a real "JDM" motor that won't any more power on the K20a2 or K20z motors w/ ITR Cams and Pistons. This whole "JDM" thing has gotten way out of hand.....

Hasn't anyone heard the term FUNCTION OVER FORM? OooooO! It's JDM!!! If you want JDM get a damn JDM ITR valve cover and call it a day! You can spend $3000 on your motor and you would walk the k20a all day long!

$3000 for 250WHP
$6000 for 200WHP and JDM Bling?

Ummmmm..... Hmmmm...... I'll go with the first option Johny!

IPS K2 Cams and valvetrain package, ITR Pistons, good exhaust, intake and KPRO bamm! 250 to the wheels! The K20 only makes like 197....

like everyone said TS dropping 5-6gs for the type r motor isnt worth it at all, if ur staying the NA route, and stay within the limits then you could probably go JRRH i believe it has a cat, 2.5" ktellers piping + one of these http://www.jhpusa.com/catalog/...=1802 not attract any unwanted attention. cams, k pro, rbc im, img, cai, + other more endless combos.

I'm going to presume to add my voice to those that are asking you not to do this.

I own a basically stock K20A(*) DC5 ITR motor in my DC2 track car, and I have also driven the K20Z1 just before it came out.

There is really very, very little difference between the two motors. The K20Z1 basically made the DC5 RSX Type S feel like ROW DC5 ITR.

You have a very nice car already. If you're going to start driving it on road circuits, maybe consider dropping a Torsen axle in it...but I wouldn't do anything to the motor until something goes.

Seriously. Don't waste the money.

You dont need the type r to get more power, just convert your a2 motor. It will be the same if not better.
