Default Loose Shifter feeling shifter...wierd noise?

Well I just picked up a 95 coupe. Only in third gear if I dont get the gear in perfectly right it will make a vibrating sound (only in third). If I take my time to shift and engage it into gear perfectly right it will not make that noise and go into gear with no problem. Keep in mind a shift like at 3-4k usually. The car came with some sort of short shifter but it is able to move side to side ALOT more than a stock shifter...and fifth gear is wayyy out to the right. Thanks for your help guys!

so sad I actually have to post a respone to this.

The bolt that holds the shifter on is probably loose. Sometimes aftermarket shifters have a washer that goes on each side the bottom to make up for the slack as the bottom is smaller than the OEM shifter. If they did not put these in there will be a lot of slop in your shifting, which you describe.

Hell....if you would think out of the box and jack up your car and look for yourself, you might have figured this one out for yourself.

The linkage bolt on the trans. could be loose, or the bushing at the trans. could be junk. Also check to see that the "short shifter" was installed correctly and that the bushings and bolts that connect the shifter assembly to the underbody are all intact.

If you have any more questions you can pm me. Don't worry, I'm (usually) not a condescending *****.
