Maaco paint job......is it worth it?
Hi u'all, c I'm taking my car down to maaco 2morrow to get it painted. I've heard some things and I'm kinda insecure bout dis. I went with the second package for $999 and some little body work was added to the total so dat brings the estimate to about $1200. I could ve went with the first package for $299, but it's somewhat shitty and jus to be on the saver side, I went wit the second 1. So pls tell me...........any1 whos had an experience wit maaco. Is it worth $1200 to at least get a decent paint job (nothing fancy). I already made a down payment so ma ball's hangin on dis. u'all tell me wat u think iight. Thanx.
Aiight g-money, me personally...I would never take my car to Maaco, but that's me. If you don't have or want to spend the cash to get it done right, then Maaco is the ticket. You get what you pay for, so just keep that in mind when you get your car back.

Exactly, I just got mine back from Maaco, spent 1200 and had them expletive the whole car up and have to repaint it. now, 2 months later, my car is still fucked up and I just don't want to deal with them anymore.
There are runs in the paint, some chipped spots, and some faded spots.....they suck ***.

I have to disagree. I actually just started painting at Maaco in Ocala FL a couple weeks ago. I was very suprised to find out how they do the work at this one. They actually do a VERY good job on prepping and masking the car here and ofcourse, look who's in the booth
so you can scratch this Maaco off the $hit list. So if anyone in the FL area needs a good quality paintjob at a resonable price come to Ocala and stop by.

Yeah, its all franchised so it depends on whos running the franchise, if they really care or not, or just hire a bunch of kids for 6 bucks an hour to spray the cars with cheapo paint.
If you go to one where the guys know their stuff and the owner actually cares about servicing the customers instead of just making a fast buck, youll get a good job.
Ive also heard it helps to prep your car ahead of time, and to slip the painter some extra cash as a tip before hand. Hard to do a **** poor job when someones handed you 100 bucks cash and youve met them face to face, plus half your job is done ahead of time.
Also their base/clear jobs are pretty good, but their single stage jobs are general terrible. I think the $1000 job is base/clear.

Yeah, i was going to mention, it's franchised. So you can find some good ones out there, same with other low end, chain autobody places. The local one around here is mediocure. I have had accouple friends take their cars their. No chipping, no runs, etc. But they do horrible body work. Small dents are treated as no dents, large dents usually still have issues. I actually wouldn't mind taking a beater their if i did all the prep work. But, i've seen other ones where the paint is almost gone off anything that is urathane in less than a year.
But yeah, they are notorious for being quite poor for a reason. Most are, but it's not one shop, one owner. Each shop will differ, outside the actual paint they use (to my knowledge, they use the same paint).

Maaco uses Dupont materials
PPG FTW
the owner of the shop that I am at won't let a half *** job out the door, we have to bring it around again and redo it. I guess he runs this store completly different than the others. I have to give this shop

Ok, yeah, i was pretty sure they all used the same paint. That's where the good local one gets low marks from people (assuming you do your own prep work, like i said, they suck). A good macco, earl shieb, etc is a great deal though, wish i had one around.
it's alright. it all really depend on which one you go to, for me I went to the best one in my state. did a 400 buck (second to the last base) and paint turned out ok. no over spray or uneven paints, just has orange peels.
do what you want. You get what you pay for. People have no idea what in involved in a good paint job and just look at the price.
Take my friend for example. He didnt want to pay $3700 for a overall at my work so he got Maaco's highest price paint job at $2150 and they were suposed to fix dents as well.
There is overgloss on the door, dry clear on mirrors, overspray all over moldings, the paint isnt even that glossy the body work is a little wavy. HE is pretty unhappy and admitted it would have been better to take it to my work and pay a little more for a better job.
