Default LS head vs Type R

i have a ls b18b block i have wiesco pistons, eagle rods, golden eagle sleeves, arp head bolts, etc and i want to run about 18 to 25 psi and my bud said i should get a type r head and that it would make a huge difference in horse power and i just wanted some honest feedback on the subject cause i was just planning to use the ls head and if the type r is better were could i find one???? thx

Leave the head along and just boost it IMO.

if you want to go through the hassle of an ls/vtec build, it all depend on what you want.

A stock ls is good for 300whp in stock form. Much beyond that and dd becomes a hassle IMO.

I'm sure someone will argue that having the b18c5 head will make for a "better' powerband.

if you decide to do the ls/vtec swap, just do it right so It's reliable.

Sounds good to me. I'm not an expert on boost, but i've met plenty of people who make killer numbers on LS heads.

stay with stock axles unless you plan on doing tranny upgrades, its better to brake an axle than a diff. also type R heads are over rated, a b16 head is basicly the same thing, valve train, cams and a slite port is the only difference. i say still with the ls head build it and port and plolish and youll be good to go just make sure you get a good tune that makes all the difference.

If you are shooting for under <350whp I wouldnt even mess with cams, cam gears, manifold, or a port/polish. Just get a 3angle valve job with springs/retainers/seals.

On a stock ls a b16 head would be worth 40hp. On a boosted one Im sure itd be worth more. Once you put vtec and boost togather youll be very happy (I love the sound of vtec). I just sold a complete b16 head (usdm) for 500 bucks.

here is my opinion. expletive the ls head and doing all that work to it, get a b16 head, or GSr head, both are good i like B16 tho. But just doing that head swap like he said is around 40+ hp....you wont gain that with cams ported head and what not on the LS head...Id just get vtec head, boost that for a lil till you get a lil more money...and then put all those mods in that. Unless you arent looking for HIGH hp and rpms...im addicted to RPMs... and boost..lol..But like they all said, the LS is perfect also. thats just how I like to do thing. good luck with decisions...look at it either way tho...BOOST IS BOOST!!!!!

Never done it but my bud did it and he had no problems. Maybe if I did it this may be true. Just get your facts straight and plan it shouldnt be to hard.

go with a type r and just trash his setup now? hype Rs are overrated.

when just comparing heads the type r head is far superior to an LS head. when youre boosting though you can make great #s with the LS so just stick with that.
