A K&N filter will not prevent hydro-locking. A K&N filter will give your car the slightly little performance increase and cooler sound at Wide Open Trottle (WOT). K&N is decent, because it is a known and trusted company. I have seen the kock-off filters fall apart before.
A AEM air bypass valve is what you need to prevent hydrolocking. Be sure the buy the correct diameter one for the pipe that you are using. My friend bought the incorrect diameter and it doesnt work on his pipe. The air bypass valve will rob you of a little power from the little performance increase, but it will save you if you are going through water which could hydro-lock and destroy your engine.
The AEM V2 Cold air intake is a good intake, but its just a piece of pipe that cost $250+. A ebay pipe is not much different, because a pipe is a pipe, but the AEM is cool, because it has the AEM sticker on it. The AEM might have a little smoother interior wall which gives a negligeble increased airflow (or so they say).

Remember too that the air filter has to be submerged in water to hydro lock. Most people don't understand this.
My car is dropped about 2.5" and the bottom of the filter is a good 6"-8" or so off the ground. Of course, I'm careful in rainy conditions but it would take a pretty deep puddle to hydro lock.
So basically that bypass is completely useless unless you plan on driving your car in a swamp. But if you just want peace of mind I guess get one.

Sorry, the V2 can not use air bypass valve anyway. It can only work with V1.
Not trying to scare you away from it, but do a search on here in the archives for "hydrolocked my motor" and see what comes up.
If you have another car for really rainny conditions, you have nothing to worry about

The whole filter doesn't have to be submerged...
But you're pretty much looking at a situation similar to pouring a cup of water on it which is hard to do in real world driving.

actually, according to AEMs website. it can be used with the V2, but it woulddecrease its power gains and pretty ruin the whole point of buying a V2 vs. a regular intake in the first place.
