Default what do you gain from putting on a SRI than the stock airbox?

If anything the stock airbox seems to grab more cooler air compares to SRI which is right next to the engine. So what do you gain besides the extra noise?

Well, on my s/c '06 SI I noticed the power difference. And no, not just sound. (although it does sound nice)

i got my K&N drop in filter, in which after i removed all the factory piping after the intake box. it sounds dope, and it pulls too. only 56 bucks.

where did you get that at? Got pics I can take a look? Was thinking of doing something to the airbox, undecided yet.

it looks the same, just that theres no piping after the intake box. ordered it from pepboys. came the next day and i picked it up from them.

You were posting about buying new intake, wasn't happy with the open airbox & filter setup?

I'm interested in getting a SRI over CAI, but if the noise is all I'm getting, I think I'll just do the open airbox instead.

I am in the process of do that airbox mod in the FAQ sticky, I think that it will work pretty well.

I would think that with the higher intake air temps derived from a short ram intake versus the cold air derived from the factory system you would gain fuel savings. The hotter the air coming into the engine the less fuel that will be injected into the engine. Also with the free flowing intake you would increase your baseline fuel economy such as replacing a old dirty air filter would restore your basline fuel economy.

Honestly if you are going to do the open air box mod you could dremel out the opening to its limits.

Hotter air means less air going into the engine, isn't that the same concept as a dirty filter blocking intake? Is our engine smart enough to tell how much air is in the chamber to adjust the fuel injection? I'm pretty sure it's not that advanced. I would think the only thing control how much fuel going into the chamber is your gas pedal.

So if anything the hotter air should give you less mpg. That's why the CAI product keep saying it will improve some mpg I'm thinking. Then again in the winter time, it's always 0 below and I don't see any fuel improvement on my mpg but I bet the air going in is super dense. Hmm I'm really confused on who's right now.

Not less air, but less dense, meaning lower oxygen content.

Less restriction will always improve fuel economy. The engine has an air temprature sensor, that is how it can adjust the fuel.

So you think SRI will somewhat increase a little bit of mpg aside from the noise?

Yes absoloutely without question, based on the fact that the SRi is less restrictive than a stock induction system, so long as you drive normally.

so how is it that K&N has managed to get a claim of 10 hp from a SRI. which is what i hvae. do u think it really hurts ur power. i kept the stock piping down low so the air flows in and up nd leads rite to the SRI.

That piping is just extra weight, without suction or a direct "ram air" inlet it is not moving anything.
