Default Recharging my A/C after a swap how to go about it???

After Swapping out my motor I need to reinstall my A/C i have all the lines hooked up back together but they were removed prior to the swap so i lost all the refrigerant and w.e....So can i just buy a can of refrigerant and a gauge and recharge or does it need to be taken to a proffessional ??? I had A/C cold as hell before the swap and I bought two cans to recharge but want to know if thats all it needs

I would get some PAG oil and drain the compressor and refill it with fresh oil, while your at it, old oil kills the efficiency of the compressor, it is not required if it has not been exposed for a long period of time.

Ideally you should have the system vacuumed out before you recharge it, but you can just throw refrigerant in there if you want.

Buy one of those big *** cans that has the pressure gauge on it, recharge it until it stays in the blue zone with the A/C on.

is it a bad thing to just recharge with the refrigerant bottles?? what does vacumming it do?

It's not ideal, all that does is empty any air in the system and removes any other stray gases, since you only want refrigerant in the lines. Oxygen causes rust, and thats a no no for the A/C system...

You need to meter the refrigerant so you know how much you have put in, if you have a tag specifying an amount you could make a rough guess, but I would feel much better myself if I knew I had the right amount in there.

I agree with ^^^ recharging with the auto store or walmart kits will work but you should have the system vacuumed to remove the oxygen. Better to do it once and not have to think about it again.

Connect it to the L fitting, connect it to the high fitting and be prepared for the can to possibly explode...

filling it with an autozone kit is fine if it's just low - but if you drained it all out after a swap pull a vacuum to -30psi b4 filling it up - a shop should be able to do it if they have the machine.
