Default Subs, battery, or alternator

I have a problem when I hook the power cable to the battery many different ways it seems that my 400w amp with 2 10'' subs draw to much power from either the battery or alternator and my car will make the starting effort but wont turn over accessories and vents will work. I have a 97 DX hatchback.

I was thinking a capacitor but i dont think its a problem with getting power to the amp cause without a capacitor you in theory should still be able to start your car not in my case where it wont start if i hook up the subs, even if the subs arent turned on.

Sounds like you have a connection problem, if the amp is not on it draws no current, make sure your batt. terminals are clean and tight, also check the batt. cable at the starter motor/solenoid. 94

The bolts on the terminal were tightened completely but wont stay securely connected to the battery is there anyway to make a better connection by using something like a spacer on the battery? My car now without the subs hooked up still starts kinda rough and i know its because the terminal is not as tight around the battery, what can i do to make it stay on better aside from tightening a **** ton which has already been done?

A new aftermarket terminal, a new 500 duralast battery, and some petroleum jelly did the job. : )
