Surging idle with gsr swap (yes I've searched)
This is actually for a friend's car. Anyways ever since the swap was done the car will idle between 1000 - 1500 rpms. It doesn't do it until the car is warmed up. We have tried everything we can think of. Cleaned iacv and fitv, bled coolant system several times, and checked for vacuum leaks just about every day. If you give it a little gas it will go away but as soon as you pump the brakes the rpm's will raise and then it will start surging again. We are looking for any suggestions, advice, etc. Thanks
what happens when you unplug the iacv? does it still surge or idle steady at ~500 rpm? i know it'll throw a code, what i'm after is the behavior after the iacv is unplugged.
surging idle=vaccume leak.. take some carb or brake clean and spray arround the motor when you spray something and it idles down that is your leak.. spray under the intake and throttle body also

but then it would surge if the iacv was unplugged, too...
if the idle stabilized with the iacv unplugged as the OP stated, how can it be a vac leak? the leak would show itself in that case too.

i would still check for a leak.. next clean out the iacv with carb clean it could be stuck. then check voltage and ohms at the connector and sensor it self to make sure it is in spec..

yeah we have a spare iacv that we are going to try as soon as we get some free time. thanks for the suggestions and we will of course let you know if swapping the iacv fixes the problem. fingers are crossed
well we swapped out the iacv with a known working one and problem is still there. what a pain in the ***. We are of course still open for any other suggestions. btw when we unplug the iacv the car idles perfect.
yeah we have tried that several times. I figured if it was a vacuum leak it wouldn't go away when we unplug the iacv. Still open for any suggestions, thanks
i would now check voltage at the sensors mainly tps map and iacv and also test the ohms at the sensors.. helms will give you voltage and ohm numbers to go by..
