Default no power when accelerating, shakes like a washing machine.

a6 block with a z6 head, y7 mani, and z6 TB. Just finished putting the mani and converting to obd1. but ive got some problems i cant find solutions to.

while trying to drive the car, there was no power to it. was like i was drivng off one cylinder. Car didnt try dying or anything, but it did have a lot of misfires. Lots of loud crack/pop noises that came from the exhaust as i excelerated.

Ive also discovered i may need a new head gasket. got a serious oil leak thats coming from a seal on the cam side of the engine..hooray. Looks like it may be the head gasket (which is only 4 months old) or maybe cam seal?(some one suggested cam seal to me). oil seems to collect the most between the block and head where the gasket it, then in drains down off of the motor

Idle though is rattling the crap out of my car. is there something i can do to maybe make it feel less like im sitting on top of the motor? idle level for rpm is fine, but feels aweful.

so to sum it up what i need help now:
what can lead to terrible acceleration(no power) and misfires?
how can i improve the idle feel on my car so im not being rattled so much

Are you throwing any codes? Sounds like it could be a map sensor or tps maybe?

If your not throwing any codes, but the car starts you gotta break it down to basic mechanics.

- Are you getting proper fuel pressure?

- Spark?

- Timing?

- Wiring?

not getting any codes. i wired the dizzy right and made sure to check that its wired right.

i know im getting spark but ill heck each cylinder

i may try resetting the timing wether or not its off for the hell of it.

wiring was good.

map sensor was fine jsut before i did all this work. and if i had the map and tps mixed up by chance, the car wouldnt even run. and im getting no codes.

i hate trouble shooting....

more suggestions welcomed, especially if anybody has encountered something like this.

ill be doing all sorts of checks and redos like checking the rotor, reset timing, etc. If i cant get anywhere ill convert back to obd0 and see how it runs.

well..as my luck goes it was the distributor...every major job ive ever done to one of my crx's..its been the dizzy.

Car runs jsut fine now. strong and fast, smooth idle, sounds good.

It came down to cylinders 3 and 4 were not matched up correctly on the distributor. once swapped, car run great.

so ive learned: hard start ups, orugh idle, and terrible/no power while trying to drive (with or without popping back fires) can be attributed to the distributor! Always check that sucker inside and out!

thanks for all the help tohugh guys.
