Default Where are people mounting thier temp sensors for aftermarket water temp guages?

I had mine mounted in the bottom of my rad but it would only read after the theromstat opened. My stock honda guage would read red hot but when I would shoot it with the temp gun it would say temp was normal. I got a new sensor but it still would still go in the red and thermostat would not open so I could never get a reading.

Now that I am pulling my motor out again and putting the GSR back in I am looking for a better place to mount it. I was thinking on the water tube that goes into where the water pump is b/c I have an opening there. Or the other place would be where I plugged the head. Just looking for some ideas.

Post pics if you got them.

Dumb question but can you weld brass to alum?

i got it had a brain fart there. I thought I had to get the correct bung that my SW temp sensor threads into. But I can just get a normal bung and screw mine into that.

Nope. Put some teflon tape on it, threaded it in by hand, and snugged it up w/ a 1/4" drive socket.

question? where is the best spot to get an accurate reading on the temp?

1) the head?
2) the thermostat housing?
3) water line?
4) spliced into the lower or upper radiator hoses?
5) the block

i have mine in a brass tee fitting in the lower radiator hose..but i do like that block that someone made in the pic a few posts up.

for those who put in the factory location...what temp gauge did u use? i have an auto meter...and that doesnt fit and it would take all kinds of adapters to get that thing to work.

I've got an autometer water temp gauge, with an autometer water temp sender threaded directly into the cylinder head.

If u have it mounted in the lower radiator hose i dont think u r seeing the actual temp, u r seeing the temp after it has been cooled through the radiator.

The best "easy" place to put it is the upper radiator hose. You want to know the temp of the water coming out of the head, not the temp going to the engine.

on my gsr head, the water neck connected to the upper radiator hose. had an empty hole where a bleeder would normally go. I tapped that and put the water temp sensor there. works great and is low key. hard to notice.
