Default Can a damaged head be fixed?

i pulled the head of my B16a today to find that a valve had broken and tagged the piston. The combustion chan=mber on the head was damaged also. Can a competent machinist fix this type thing? I have seen lots of heads that are welded and have the chambers re-shaped, so I thought I may be able to save the head by doing this. Any one have ideas? I will try and post pics by Wed. The head has a Bad *** port and polish job so I cant seem to let it go. I may keep it as a paper weight
