Default Help with Rack and Pinion Rebuild

I'm upgrading from a vented P/S rack to a manual Quaife Rack and I've run into a small problem - there is a clip that goes on the pinion, that locks the pinion bearing into place. I cannot for the life of me find a replacement for this clip nor how to even remove it. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. I need to either get this clip out or purchase a new one to hold the new pinion bearing onto the Quaife pinion.

Again I’m in with the guess lol. How about a big old pair of visegrips on the humped (yes I said humped) part, it should bulge out the rest and once it’s off just bend it back to shape. That’s all I got, that **** looks beefy though.

I think I tried that method, the problem with that is that the piece is so narrow with the bearing right underneath that I have no hope in getting a grip on it.

Maybe it can be pressed off with the bearing simultaneously?

Just throwing some ideas out there for ya. Free bump!

Doubtful as it slides into position in a shallow grove directly on the top of the bearing. I could try it though, but I'm rather sure it would snap the clip. Now if I had say...a 35mm pipe I could use it to help me push the bearing and pinion into the housing without the bearing sliding.

my factory manual, as well as the Autozone repair info, says this:

"The pinion bearing assembly cannot be removed if it shows signs of wear. If the bearing is to be replaced, replace as an assembly."

why are you bothering with that odd clip? youre going to be replacing the pinion gear anyway, and be using a new bearing. so why not just buy a new retaining ring and go ahead with the install?

are you trying to put the quaife rack into your power steering rack????

is that even possible?

its supposed to only go into the DX manual rack.
