Manual rack, pinion gear stuck
So I am in the process of rebuilding the front end of my 92 DX Civic. The subframe and steering rack have been dropped from the car. Since the outer tierods were shot to hell and the boots torn, I figured it would be a good idea to regrease the rack and pinion. From the picture below, I have removed the dust seal and 35mm snap ring, and the rack guide. Accordingly, I *should* now be able to remove the pinion and bearing assembly correct? You might have guessed, that I have been unable to do so.
Is there something I'm missing from this process? Could it be this bearing is just seized into the housing after ~24 years there? As far as I can tell, the bearing is still sitting flush as it was, because I can see the groove for the snap ring all the way around. I have tried to pull on the pinion shaft by using the universal joint to slide a rod through to pull, but still no luck.
Any experience/helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.
As a side note (and for future searches), the rack is an SR3L.

Go figure. Just need to beat the **** out of eh?
I wonder, will this require replacing the bearing? Or can the bearing/pinion assembly be removed without destroying the bearing?
thanks!
