For you trailer queens
To those who trailer their R's, does anyone use a CRV to pull the trailer? How does it do and where did you get your trailer from? I will eventually use the wife's CRV when it is paid off as my daily and R trailer puller and was just wondering.

I picked up a 2005 Durango Limited with navigation and Hemi for about $32,000 in summer of '05. It tows 7800 or something as-equipped, or 8700 if I change the final drive ratio.
I'd recommend it, it towed my ITR with spare tires and tools, etc, on an open (1700 lb?) trailer, with no real issues. Seats 7 people too. I probably have 12,000 towing miles on it with either my old ITR or Prelude.
The ridgeline is "borderline OK" to tow with, from the only person I talked to that towed an ITR with one. He worked at a dealer and was using one of those for an event. I don't recall the tow rating but I thought it was 4500 or 5000 lbs, which is about exactly what I'm towing with a Honda/Acura behind me with some spares.
You'd better get a Tundra or Land Cruiser if you're sticking with Honda or Toyota.

No it doesn't sound dangerous..... it IS dangerous
That Uhaul trailer is about 500lbs heavier than typical trailers and he must of "lied" to uhaul to allow him to rent that trailer. The towing capacity of the Element is 1500lbs.... the uhaul trailer alone weighs more than that !!!
I tow with a '98 Tacoma V6 Xtracab modified with extra leaf springs and I am at the limit of that truck (has a 5000lb capacity).
If I was going to purchase a Tow vehicle and wanted to remain with an import vehicle I would buy (in preference order):
1. Nissan Titan
2. Toyota Tundra (newer ones have more capacity)
3. Toyota Tacoma (newer ones have more capacity)
4. Honda Ridgeline
I would stay away from Honda Pilot or Odyssey's because need tranny coolers, air bags in the springs, etc. in order to tow anywhere near 5000lbs. They are rated at 3500lbs.

You MIGHT could get away with a tow dolly if you were only towing short distances.
I say emphasize MIGHT.

Its the same as the CRV. Trust me on this one. I've seen Elements and CRV's tow less than that and fall apart. I don't advise it.

They are rated at 4500lbs. you are correct on the oil and tranny coolers though.

lol @ Element with a ******* full trailer and R on the back!! stopping/slowing down must have been real fun. like already said you might be able to use a tow dolley relatively safely, but a full trailer is insane. and you would definitely have to lie to uhaul about the vehicle being used.
I towed my ITR with my wife's Odyssey to Expo 7 on a tow dolly and it did just fine. It was even engaging VCM at points on the highway. I got 16.7mpg towing with it.
I tow about 6500 lbs worth of car and trailer (enclosed 20ft Pace Rallye) and my limit is a bit over 10,000 lbs with my Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. I have the Duramax engine and it performs great. I was told it is always better to have something that is rated to tow twice what you pull which if money is no object (it was in my case but i pulled some strings) you will be better off especially once you decide to go enclosed or get an even bigger open deck trailer. I added sway control and weight distribution and to tell you the truth i don't even know the trailer is back there for the most part.
