Better for HID??
I have projector lens headlights on my 91 hatch and I also have a 6000K HID bulb and ballast kit...the lights look sweet at night but I'm not really getting the wide pattern on the ground like the newer cars without projectors. Should or would I be better off with a new set of OE Civic lights and ditch the projector beam look?
OEM get's my vote. If you have a US front end then get the ZC headlights - they're one bulb and look much cleaner. If you have JDM front go with the VTi headlights which are glass.
the only way to get a sharp OEM cutoff is to do an OEM retro fit. shining Hid lighting through heavily fluted lenses desiged for hallogen bulbs is also pointless and will blind on coming drivers. i think you would be better off with stock headlights. housings , bulbs and all.
Ok, my projector beam headlamps have a smooth unfluted glass on them...is there anyway I can take them off and mount them on an OEM housing? After driving with HID I think it would be pretty hard to go back to halogen,REALLY!
yes you can mount your clear lenses onto the oem housings. however without a true HID projector the cutoff will not be as sharp as it is found on OEM luxury vehicles. if you are a perfectionist and don't want to get pulled over by the police, you would need to retrofit something out of a vehicle that has an OEM HID setup. i went with acura tsx projectors opposed to s2k projectors for the simple fact that they are both quite similar in output however the tsx are alot cheaper. you can use almost any ballast with them. you would need to modify the existing bracket inside of the headlight to compensate for the tsx projector and find a way to secure it using bolts etc.
also this was on my integra to clear things up.. making it alot easier to retrofit because the integra already has halogen projectors, it was pretty much setup to accept any HID projector that was similar in size, and still look oem (like nothing was done/modified)
