Default problem regarding to setting the timing on CRX

I have a 88 CRX SI. I am trying to set the timing. I follow the steps on ALLDATA. I can find the 2-pin cable near the driver side fender. The problem is the CHECK ENGINE light doesn't come on when I bypass the ECU by shorting the 2-pin connector, and I also don't notice there is a change in the RPM. I know ALLDATA sometimes mess up. Please tell me the right procedure to bypass the ECU. Also, I have a dyno program on my laptop, but it is only good for OBDII cars. What should I add or buy so I can use it on my OBD I CRX? Thanks for helping.

stock motor? if you have already done an OBD0 to OBD1 conversion that might be why you are having such problems.

It is a stock motor, and I have never done any obd conversion. Plus. 2 of my friends have a 91 CRX Si and 89 CRX DX. we all have the same problem. bypassing the 2 pin timing adjusting connector and no check engine light comes on.

Then you're OBD0. I don't think the CEL is supposed to come on when jumpering the timing connector.

You say your REX is OBD 1 but it's stock.....................wrong! it's OBD 0 stock and what the hell is this about a timing connector to set the Cel??? to check your timing just get a freakin timing light and aim it at the crank!!! If your trying to get you CEL to come on via jumper then you need OBD 1 (which you don't have). not too mention your suppossd to check timing w/ a light.

you sound soooooooooooooooooooo confused.
