Default Identifying a stolen motor?

I was under the impression that even when you purchased a salvaged motor, the vin plates remained on the motor. I was just looking on ebay at some vehicles and I came accross a integra with a type r motor swap, if you look closely in the slide show on the add, you can see the vin plate is missing. I rarely post, but I always read the forums, and with all the type r theft I find myself being paranoid about my own vehicle. For the record I am not claiming this motor is stolen, I am just posing a question about it. Please nobody jump my case, I am not calling anyone a theif or saying anybody stole anything.

Under the engine code(B18C5) there is a block serial #. If that is scratched out I don't think there is any other way to figure it out....
