Default b series motor

okay the professionals and the b series gurus thats been doing this for a long time really need ur help..
i'm building a b series motor.. my main question is based on ALL motor.

1. say i wanted to slap on a 73mm throttle body to a stock manifold say 63mm would it even line up... because the diameter of the Tb would be bigger than the IM and it wouldn't line up.. the tb would overlap..

2. okay is it possible to have a port and polish head and not port the manifold. how would the gasket work.... baisically ur putting a gasket on the head where its been ported so the holes lines up.. but lets say the manifold isn't how does that work.

3. if u port just the head and not the manifold is that restricting air flow?

4. what about if u port just the manifold and not the head.. i think this is restricting airflow because all that extra air can't go in.. into a smaller hole so backpressure is created... i guess...

i would appreciate if u help. i search but notihng..wanna build me a nasty b series motor thanks..-

I just want to realy know how do u have a manifold that has a port enlarged and the head ports arent. so how does the gasket for manifold work for that situation and wouldn't that really restrict air flow.. air coming out of a bigger hole(manifold thats ported) going into a smaller hole(head port)

let me know thanks

first of all, it doesnt really sound like ur gonna be needing a 73mm tb. unless its a race application. and if u were to go with a 73, no it wouldnt line up with the mani, u would have to port the im. but if ur gonna be running something as crazy for u to need a 73 mm tb, chances are ur gonna be using a manifold that isnt stock.

as far as the ported head/manifold problem: the gasket is st ill gonna go on regardless. u might wanna gasket match it to the head for better airflow. and if i had to choose between ported head or ported im, id choose the head

first off i want to say that i am in no way trying to be a dick...ok now that i got that out of the way...common sense would tell u to port match both head and IM. they are both off anyway...it doesnt take more than an extra 30 min. to port the other. if ur going NA dont port too much inside...just match the gasket.

twhy would u just decide to do one side only? to answer ur original question, yes it will restrict air flow if u just port the IM and yes it is pointless to just port the head and not the IM. the best result will come from air flow not hitting any sharp walls ie. ported IM but not the head. if u port the head and leave the IM the air thats allowed to flow thru the IM with the certain amount of velocity and volume will create an unwanted turbulance when the air hits a bigger opening. just do both, they are both off the motor. also 80 percent of people on honda-tech.com does not need a 74mm (or what ever u have) bore throttle.

but now i'm saying u can't just port the IM and leave the head.. because the gasket won't sit and match up right.. but its impossible to do it.. or it can be done it will just leak air like that..
